Pretty Fix November: Two Ways to Wear a Thankful Tee

Pretty Fix November: Two Ways to Wear a Thankful Tee

Hey pretties!  Can we all just agree that it’s been quite a year? Between bad news coming at us every day and our individual personal struggles, it can all just feel like too much. I’m not sure how you are all coping but I’ve found that starting and ending each day with gratitude for what’s right in my world helps dramatically.  No matter what’s going on, there’s always, always, always something to be thankful for.

What better time than November to practice radical gratitude! Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and also my second favorite holiday of the year. We’ll be hosting our extended family for dinner so I’m already thinking about some comfortable, easy outfits that will allow me to take care of hostessing duties while still looking put together.

Today’s post features two ways to wear a thankful graphic tee. In all fairness, the only thing that’s changing in these two looks is I swapped the plaid shirt for a long cardigan and added my favorite statement necklace. The base pieces in both outfits are my new thankful tee  and my favorite super soft frayed hem jeans.  Note:  I’m wearing the women’s fit in this tee.  It runs a bit small so you may want to order up a size.

UPDATE!  My Thankful tee has sold out but you can shop some other cute options HERE.

Outfit #1

Plaid Shirt + Thankful Tee + Frayed Hem Jeans + Ankle Boots

I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect pair of gray ankle booties for close to a year.  This pair is really comfortable and I love the little cut outs on the side. They will look cute with some patterned socks peeking out in colder weather.

Outfit #2

Long Cardigan + Thankful Tee + Statement NecklaceFrayed Hem Jeans + Ankle Boots

In this outfit, this statement necklace is really the star of the show, it keeps selling out and restocking so you may want to check out this one or this one if you can’t get this exact necklace.  It was on the shopping list for the Fall 2017 GYPO Style Challenge and Work Wear Capsule Wardrobe. It’s gotten a lot of wear so far this fall and will into the holiday season too!

Now, on to this month’s Pretty Fix!  If you’re new around here, the Pretty Fix is my list of five pieces you can add to your wardrobe each month – all without breaking the bank.  Shop my picks or shop your closet to create this month’s outfit.

Pretty Fix – November 2017

1. Plaid Shirt

Trust me, you’re going to want a red plaid shirt in your closet for fall and winter.  It’s so easy to layer over and under other pieces in your closet. I recently bought this one and love how soft and drapey it is. Don’t worry, if red plaid isn’t your thing there are plenty of other pretty plaid options.  Shopping Options:  1/2/3

2. Thankful Tee

A thankful tee is a great reminder that’s just perfect for November. If you order this tee, you’ll want to go up a size as it runs small (I’m wearing the women’s fit). Shopping options:  1/2/3

3. Long Cardigan

This beige long cardigan is just the right weight and it goes with just about everything. It’s a year round classic basic. Shopping options:  1/2/3

4. Frayed Hem Jeans

You’re probably tired of hearing me rave about these super soft frayed hem jeans. But how can I not? They are truly the pair I reach for most often in my closet. Shopping Options:  1/2/3

5. Ankle Boots

These gray ankle boots are the result of a nearly year long search for the perfect pair! I love the charcoal gray, it goes with everything. Shopping options:  1/2/3

Here’s another super cute take on this look. Instead of a plaid shirt, pair a plaid scarf with this 3/4 sleeve thankful shirt.

SAHMonday: A White Tee and a Long Cardigan

Welcome to another edition of SAHMonday – outfit inspiration just for the stay at home and work from home moms of the world (like me!) who aren’t heading out of the house on Monday morning.  You can check out the other outfits in this series here.

These outfits are perfect for when you want to feel comfortable, yet put together, so that you can face the day and any errands you may need to run.  Plus, most of these outfit formulas can be pulled straight from your closet!

Long Cardigan, Slouchy Tee and Distressed Jeans

Let’s just go ahead and name this the “Alison Outfit” because it’s pretty much my fall uniform.  There’s nothing that feels more me than a slouchy half-tucked tee, a long lightweight cardigan, distressed jeans, a pendant necklace and my new favorite mule loafers. See, I told you last week that I wear these shoes like every single day!

My cardigan is sold out but this lightweight version is similar.  The necklace is an original from Chesley Mae.  My exact tee, jeans and mules are linked up below.

My Go To Date Night Outfit Formula

My Go To Date Night Outfit Formula

TGIF pretties! Have you ever had to scramble to pull together a date night outfit at the last minute? That’s what happened to me this week. In this case though, it was a girls’ night out instead of a date night.

My sweet friend Kim invited me along for a night of laughter (and tears) at the Moxie Matters Tour in Dallas with Jen Hatmaker and Nichole Nordegren.  She had meet and greet tickets so it was an offer I couldn’t refuse.  Not that I would have anyway, I’ve been a HUGE Jen fan and follower for years (she’s my extroverted alter ego) so I jumped at the opportunity to hear her speak and meet her in person. The coolest thing is that some of you may have even found GYPO through Jen.  I had to pinch myself when she featured one of my capsule wardrobes in her newsletter a few months ago!  Here’s our crazy group with Jen and Nichole (I’m hiding in the back).

Not gonna lie, THIS picture below was the highlight of the evening! But so was meeting GYPO reader Molly (shout out to Molly) which by the way, if you ever see me out and about please introduce yourself. It honestly makes my day! (even when I’m schlepping around TJ Maxx in my bedroom slippers – embarrassing but true story and lesson learned) 🙂

If you haven’t gone to the Moxie Matters tour yet, GO. It was a beautiful, poignant evening with reminders that all the pain and brokenness we experience leads to something beautiful on the other side. Between that and Nichole’s powerful storytelling through her music, I went through lots of tissues!

So, back to the outfit, I’ll be honest, this was completely thrown together at the very last minute.  But that’s the beauty of a good go-to outfit formula.

Go To Date Night Outfit Formula

Solid Blouse + Black Pants + Leopard Heels + Layered Necklaces + Moto Jacket (Optional)

Here’s how this date night outfit formula works, pull any solid colored blouse out of your closet and pair it with black pants or jeans.  Add a pair of leopard heels and layered necklaces and voila – instant outfit!  The moto jacket is optional. Mine ended up coming in handy as it was kind of chilly at the event venue.

My bell sleeve blouse is sold out but you can find similar ones here, here and hereThese velvet pants are still in stock and one of my favorites!  They’re stretchy, lightweight and comfy. Perfect for upcoming holiday parties or for everyday. My shoes and moto jacket are also sold out but I’ve linked similar pieces up below.

Plaid Shirt OBSESSION: Four Outfits to Try Now

Plaid Shirt OBSESSION: Four Outfits to Try Now

Happy hump day, pretties!  I finally got my closet transitioned over from summer to fall/winter last week.  Even though it’s a lot of work, I love it for a few reasons. First off, I get to clean out and organize everything.  Before I swap out clothes for the season, I remove anything that I didn’t wear all season long and put it in a bag marked “clothing purgatory”.  It goes into the attic until next year and then I decide if I like it enough to pull it back out again.

The second reason I love my seasonal closet clean out is that I get to pull all of last year’s clothes out of storage and put them back in my closet. It’s like meeting up with old friends!  I see all of the pieces I’ve loved and missed for the past year.

One of those old best friends is my plaid shirt which you saw a lot of last year. When I pulled it out, I couldn’t wait to introduce it to some new friends in my closet from the Fall 2017 GYPO Style Challenge – like my new beige cardigan and suede loafers.  And of course, Mr. Plaid Shirt pairs perfectly with lots of his old friends too.

Here are four NEW ways that I’m pairing up my plaid shirt this fall. My original plaid shirt is sold out but I’ve linked a similar one here, here, here and here. I shopped my closet for all of these outfits but linked up exact pieces where I could.

Beige Cardigan + Plaid Shirt + Distressed Jeans + Loafers

The plaid shirt goes preppy when paired up with a boyfriend cardigan, suede loafers and a cross body bag. Distressed jeans lend a little edge to the preppy-ness.

Plaid Shirt + Graphic Tee + Frayed Hem Jeans + Ankle Boots

I adore a good graphic tee layered under a plaid shirt!  Finish it out with my favorite SUPER SOFT frayed hem skinny jeans, these comfy low heeled taupe ankle booties and a leopard clutchTip:  Pin this one, it would make a GREAT Thanksgiving outfit with a “Thankful” tee layered under the plaid shirt!

Plaid Shirt + Striped Shirt + Black Jeans + Leopard Flats

Layer a striped long sleeved tee under your plaid shirt and pair it with black jeans (this pair is pricey but super flattering, these are budget friendly) and leopard flats for an everyday look that’s comfy and works for everything.

Gray Cardigan + Plaid Shirt + Winter White Cords + Riding Boots

SAHMonday: Classics with a Dash of Trends

Mock Turtleneck, Frayed Hem Jeans and Loafers

Little trendy details make even the most basic outfit feel special.  For today’s SAHMonday outfit, I’m pairing up two classics – a mock turtleneck tunic and mule loafers with two trends – frayed hem jeans and a rose gold pendant necklace and earrings.

I bought my mock turtleneck last fall and am just now wearing it for the first time. It was one of those little hidden gems that I discovered when I got my fall stuff out of storage to put it back in my closet. They no longer sell my top in this color but they do have this very similar one. For reference I’m wearing a size small, it fits true to size.

Let’s talk about these mules for a minute aka my new favorite fall shoes. When they arrived on my doorstop, they instantly became my go-to daily shoes. They go with everything and are comfy right out of the box. They’re also on sale for 50% off!

These are a final sale item but they fit true to size, I got mine in my regular size and they fit perfectly.
