Fall is upon us and with all the fun, new clothing pieces available resisting the temptation to update your whole wardrobe can be hard. But there’s an easier and more cost-effective way to do this and that’s with the season’s hottest accessory trends. These trends include everything from handbags to jewelry and even hair accessories. While there are some trends we’ve seen from seasons past, there’s a refreshing take on some new ones. I agree that not every trend is for everyone but adding just a few pieces can change your look and refresh your outfit. What fall trend are you most looking forward to? Below are my top ten fall accessory trends!
Whether dainty or chunky, stacking your favorite bracelets is totally on-trend for the fall. The best thing about this trend is that you probably already have a collection of bracelets that would work. To successfully accomplish this trend try stacking bracelets of similar size. That way the smaller bracelets don’t get lost or tangled up among the chunkier ones. I recommend going for roughly three if they’re on the bigger side. You can get away with 3-5 if they are smaller. Also, don’t be afraid to mix metals when creating your bracelet stacks.
The Y necklace or lariat necklace is really popular this fall. This necklace looks great with v-neck tops and scoop neck tops. It even works with collared shirts. It just depends on how the necklace falls. You just want to make sure whatever is at the end of the ‘Y’ doesn’t get lost under the neck of your shirt.
This is a great trend that’s coming back, statement belts. They are perfect for creating an hourglass silhouette and will give structure and shape to any shift or tunic dress. For added interest try using on the outside of your favorite cardigan.
An oldie but a goodie. The headband has been around for a few seasons now and going into fall the colors and prints are just a cozy as the season itself. Whether you prefer headbands or scarves the end result is the same, using hair accessories to add even more interest to your outfit. This is your chance to add a pop of color or perhaps a great print. Either way, you’ll be seeing this trend sticking around.
For this trend, we’re not talking about your favorite beanie but a had that has a little more structure. Often made of felt or wool, they truly have a ‘cozy’ feel. There are a variety of brim lengths so you may have to try on a few until you get one you love but, this type of hat goes perfect with your favorite cardigan or scarf.
For those of us who are drawn to the minimalistic design of a simple hoop or stud earring, this may not seem like a trend worth trying. Statement earrings can sometimes feel overwhelming but they really do work well with the layers of fall. Plus they eliminate the need for a necklace. It may sound like an oxymoron but I found some really pretty, and simple, statement earrings that may be worth a second look.
Handbags can be their own showpiece, this we know, but this fall is boasting a collection of quilted and textured handbags. The goal is to create a subtle 3D effect adding another layer to your fall outfit. Another trend I’m seeing on handbags is large chain-link accents. Styles this fall are showcasing their own versions of early Chanel inspiration but with a much more affordable price point.
Knee-high boots are back! Maybe you’ve tucked them away in your closet for a season or two or perhaps you never stopped wearing them but these boots are made for walking! Yes, cliché I know but I LOVE tall boots! They go great with skinny jeans and of course leggings. Cognac boots are a great closet staple and by finding a pair with a timeless design you’ll be sure to enjoy them whether they are having their moment on-trend or just because you love them.
Statements rings, also knowns as cocktail rings are having their moment again. Much like the bracelets above, one is clearly not enough this season and if you do choose just one, it should make an impact. These rings are traditionally worn on the middle or ring finger of your left hand because of their size. Ultimately though you can wear it on whatever finger feels and looks the best. I don’t know about you but I’m excited to break out some of the old statement rings I’ve kept tucked away.
Charms are everywhere this fall. Of course, there’s your traditional charm bracelet but charms are also on earrings and necklaces. They offer a little something extra to your jewelry and again when it comes to fall it’s all about the layers. Take it a step further by adding something with your initial in the charm which is also very on-trend.
The Pretty Fix took a few months off but now it’s back and what better way to welcome it back than with a cozy and versatile fall outfit formula! It’s no surprise that fall trends aren’t as groundbreaking as they may have been in years past. The world has changed and with its current state, the trends are either a continuation of last season or a return of something classic and simple, and honestly, I’m okay with that. I love that I’m able to get even more use out of some of the extra pieces I picked up last fall and I know any classic pieces will last me many seasons to come. Some of my favorite trends this season include color and prints which is why I’m drooling over the below outfit formula. It combines classic closet staples like the white tee and olive bottoms and pairs them with some fun snake print shoes and a cardigan in a beautiful, rich fall color.
Since it’s been a while since I featured the Pretty Fix and we have some new Pretties I wanted to tell you what it’s all about. The Pretty Fix is where I feature some fun trend pieces that you can easily add to your closet staples pieces or even offer style inspiration on different ways to pair up pieces you may already have. While I do love adding a few new pieces every so often, my main passion is curating pieces that will never go out of style, that I can pair up in endless ways and that I will enjoy year after year. What’s even more exciting is that the below look is just part of the Outfit Formulas® Fall 2020 Capsule Wardrobe which features even more ways to style the below pieces.
Fall Color Cardigan + White Tee + Olive Bottoms + Snake Print Shoes
1. Fall Color Cardigan
The cardigan is a classic and a quintessential item for fall plus it’s the first thing I reach for once the chill finally comes back into the air. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, it’s never a bad thing to have a few different cardigans in your arsenal because they are so versatile. It’s no surprise that fall is all about color, specifically a golden yellow or mustard color as well as rust. However, I also know not everyone is a fan of mustard but that doesn’t mean that you still can’t use this outfit formula and make it your own. Since olive bottoms are neutral you can style this look with pretty much any color cardigan such as burnt orange, plum, or burgundy.
2. White Tee
This closet staple needs no introduction. It’s perfect for pairing up with shorts in the summer and layer under sweaters in the fall. Although a white tee is pretty simple and straight forward there are still a few design options you can choose from. You can choose from a V-neck, crew or scoop neck, long sleeve or short and also a loose or a more fitted silhouette. This is another item that it’s okay to have multiples in your closet as long as they are not the exact same thing. Sometimes different situations call for a different white tee.
3. Hoop Earrings
Hoop earrings go with everything! They come in multiple designs, sizes and metals and are perfect for this look. I love adding this classic earring to my looks.
4. Neutral Handbag
Another closet staple workhorse, the neutral handbag is a must! While I styled this look with a black handbag you could easily opt for a brown or cognac bag especially if your snake print shoes have some brown undertones to them. Since this is something you’ll be able to pair up with pretty much any look, a neutral handbag makes a great investment piece, just be sure to pick something that’s not too trendy and more on the timeless side. Also, choose one that fits your lifestyle and will fit what you typically carry on a daily basis.
5. Olive Bottoms
I love olive pants! They are a great neutral and the perfect alternative when you want something other than jeans. They can easily elevate your look while still being casual and the olive color pairs perfectly with all the other beautiful colors of fall! And since pretty much every silhouette is in style this season you can’t go wrong with a skinny cut, boot cut, button fly, or even a wide leg. Just remember if you’re going to opt for a looser bottom like a boyfriend or even an olive jogger, opt for a top that’s a little more form-fitting to balance out the proportions.
6. Snake Print Shoes
Let’s talk about snake print shoes or even just snake print in general. It’s a trend that’s sticking around, it’s a neutral so it goes with anything and it’s an easy way to amp up your outfit. However, I know there are some that just can’t get on board with this print and that’s totally okay. There are a few easy substitutions you can make if you don’t want to use the snake print. Try a metallic shoe or even opt for a black or gray shoe. Another option is that you can pick a solid shoe but opt for one that has a snake scale texture. It’s a very subtle way to add snake print without actually having snake print. In addition to some great snake print shoe options, I’ve also included some great alternative options below.
Snake Print Alternatives
7. Wrap Bracelet
The wrap bracelet is one of those fun accessories I like to finish off my outfit with. I like the little bit of subtle edge they can add. If you’re not a fan of the wrap bracelet you can easily add just one or even try a cuff bracelet. Another alternative if you don’t have a wrap bracelet is to take a few of your favorite bracelets and mix them together, they don’t even have to be the same metal but they will still give that wrap bracelet look.
I always say there’s no easier way to update your wardrobe than to add some fun trendy accessories. Even the simplest outfit can be totally transformed with the perfect accessory!

When the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale catalog hit my mailbox, there was one thing I was more than a little excited about – fall 2019 trends! The catalog was chock full of them and has me itching for cooler temps and diving into creating the Fall 2019 Style Challenges® Capsule Wardrobe!
Confession: I don’t typically shop the sale all that much, but you already know that if you checked out this post. There are a few things that are absolutely worth getting during the sale – closet staples (which I covered here) and the next season’s trends. Since the sale always comes in the middle of summer, it’s the perfect opportunity to highlight what’s coming up and get a head start on picking up some fall pieces at a steal.
Without further ado, here’s your 2019 fall trend preview.
Fall 2019 Trend Preview
1. Snake Print
If you’ve been slow to warm up to this trend, fall is going to give you another really good opportunity to try it out. Honestly I think snake pattern is even richer for fall. You’re going to see it on everything from handbags and shoes to accessories, skirts, pants and tops. Try a little or try a lot!
I’m kind of giddy over this news – high boots are back BIG TIME for fall! Yes it’s been all about the ankle boots and booties the past few years but the always classic, always chic high (or tall) boot is back in rich shades of suede and leather. They pair perfectly with skirts, dresses and skinny jeans.
Fall 2019 is all about the brights! After a few years of muted shades, I for one couldn’t be happier. There are so many gorgeous saturated colors on trend but especially yellow, teal, red, green, orange, fuchsia, bright pink and royal blue.
How can classics be trends? They really can’t but they are worth mentioning. Fall is typically the season where we see a major shift back to tried-and-true wardrobe staples, impeccable tailoring and warm browns.
A perennial favorite – fall florals in rich shades of teal, burgundy and blue are always a good idea. Not to mention they pair perfectly with other patterns! You can expect to see pattern mixes of florals with plaid, snake print, leopard and more.
We can’t forget about everyone’s favorite casual closet staple! Fall 2019’s denim trends are here and this year, it’s anything goes! Classic styles will abound along with high rise, flares, straight jeans and of course, our beloved skinnies. There’s something for every fit and body type!
With the holidays quickly approaching our to-do list is growing longer by the day. For many of us, one of those to-do items is probably to have family pictures taken. Why do we pick this time of year? The weather is usually perfect, plus fresh family pictures make great holiday cards and great gifts for extended family members. While I know it sounds simple, the task of pulling off a perfectly executed family picture can be a bit daunting. Whether it’s something we do every year or every five-plus years, the first question that comes to mind is usually, “what do we wear?”
I love family photos where the theme is effortless style. Every outfit coordinates but is not so matchy-matchy and everyone is able to wear colors and clothes they feel confident in and that look great on them. This comfort and confidence then translates into a fun, beautiful family photo that you can’t wait to show off. And while I can’t help with making everyone smile at the camera and at the same time, I can help with some fall family photo outfit ideas. Below are some beautiful fall color palette combinations, example outfits, and tips to help you plan that effortless fall family photo.
1. Ladies First
Ladies, I must insist that you pick your outfit first! Find an outfit that you feel amazing in and colors you love and build off of that. It can be hard enough finding clothes we like and that fit well, but to then put limitations on ourselves because we already found clothes for the rest of the family just adds unnecessary pressure. Need some inspiration to get started? Check out Alison’s Five Fall Outfit Formulas 2020 post.
2. Shop Your Closet First
You may be surprised to know that you may already have coordinating outfits for the family and you didn’t even know it. Take the time and look through everyone’s closet first and see what items you have in the same color family. In the end, you may find out you only need to add a few pieces to pull everything together instead of purchasing everyone a new head to toe look.
3. Shop Collections
If new outfits for the little ones is a must, shop a company or store that carries kid’s clothing collections. It will help take some of the guesswork out of shopping for the little ones and will ensure that the colors coordinate, plus anytime you can get everything in one place is a bonus. Try stores like Gymboree or Carters.
4. Neutral is Not Boring
Using a neutral color palette is not boring if done right. Adding layers and texture through jackets, scarves, and accessories will add dimension to your fall family photo. Also, be sure to vary your neutral color palette. Make sure your creams, whites, grays, and other neutrals are a few shades off. If they are too close in color everyone will blend and your photo will lack depth.
5. Don’t Be Afraid of Color
Fall holds some of the most beautiful colors so take advantage of it. Be sure to choose colors that compliment your skin tone and hair color, and won’t make you look washed out in your photos. Colors should enhance, but not take over. Also, consider where in your home you plan on displaying your family photo. Would the colors in your photo work with the decor in your home? Lastly, consider where your photos will be taken. Remember that colors may look different under artificial light than they will outside. When planning your outfits and colors, use natural light before making a final decision and consider what colors will be in your background. Some fun fall color combinations include:

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.

Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.
Chosen Faith November 19, 2019
GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
