It’s a super duper exciting week and here’s why – the Style Challenges® Spring 2018 Capsule Wardrobe opens on Friday! If you need a little help updating your wardrobe for spring, I’ve got you covered.
Today I’m going to share a few of the cool new things I’ve got up my sleeve for the spring style challenge.
But first, I’ve got something that will help you if you’ve ever struggled with picking your most flattering colors. During last season’s style challenge, we had a color expert come in for a Q&A interview in our private Facebook group. We’ve also recently started providing visuals of what our capsules look like using different palettes.
This spring, we put together yet another color palette resource which I’m thrilled to share with you today. Use the following guide to determine your undertone and choose the colors that make you look and feel more confident.
Tip: Pin this resource to save your colors for future reference!
As you can see from the above color palettes, blush is one of the colors that works for both warm and cool undertones. Today I’m styling a blush blouson sleeved sweatshirt with a pair of embroidered hem jeans and mules. My sweatshirt very recently sold out but this similar one is lighter weight and perfect for spring.
The embroidered and frayed details on the hems of these jeans are such a fun detail. My mules are almost sold out, but this similar pair with a bow is even cuter!
This rose gold clover necklace is perfect with blush and just about any other spring color. It’s simple yet statement making.

I FEEL PRETTY
It’s the day of the week at GYPO where we celebrate what makes us feel pretty. Whether it’s a new outfit, hairstyle, or makeup, the I Feel Pretty link up is about anything and everything that makes your life prettier. Even if you’re not a blogger, you can still play along. Just tell me what made you feel pretty this week in the comments.
by Ami Hanson
When was the last time you looked in your closet and loved every single piece in there? If it’s ever happened before, it’s probably been a while since you’ve felt that way. About twice a year I get the overwhelming feeling of boredom with every piece of clothing in my closet. Nothing is safe: tank tops, sandals, scarves, basic shirts – they all receive an eye roll while I’m picking out the lucky outfit of the day. To solve this dilemma of disdain, I go on a “spending spree” to spruce up my wardrobe. And by “spending spree,” I mean I purchase as much as I can for as little cash as possible. Here’s how I maintain a pretty style on a budget!
1. Shop Thrift and Second-Hand
When I get bored with everything in my closet, I get an itch to go shopping. However, I’m not a shopaholic. I can only handle shopping like this a few times a year. Usually, around fall and spring, I like to get new clothes for the upcoming seasons. While my haul is pretty large, I’m still a cheapskate when it comes to purchasing clothes. I like to visit the “cheap-o” stores that others might not think to go to, or only go to on occasion. Goodwill, Plato’s Closet, and Uptown Cheapskate (see if there’s one in your area) are some of my favorites. Do a little research and see what local thrift stores are in your area. Also, at places like Uptown Cheapskate, you can take in the clothes you don’t want anymore, get cash and use that to help fund your new clothing purchases!
2. Wait and Shop the Clearance
When I venture into the “pricier” stores, I always make a beeline for the clearance sections. Let me stop right here. If you’re not shopping the clearance section of retail stores, you’re missing out! I love going straight to those racks in Target to see what kind of treasures I can find. I try not to get anything over $12 or $13, but there’s always plenty of goodies! One purchase that I was particularly excited about was a dress I needed for a bridal shower this past fall. It’s a deep, fall purple color, it matches with several style outfits, and it’s perfect for most seasons. It’s easy math: a versatile dress + clearance prices = Ami’s buying!
My husband and I both rocking some of our clearance finds! I absolutely love this dress!
I don’t mean to change your whole way of thinking (okay, maybe I do…), but what if we shopped toward the end of a season instead of the beginning of a season?? Notice how I said toward the end… Y’all know all these retail stores start putting away their sweaters in January to make room for those bikinis! Well, there’s a whole other month or two of good winter time (at least where I am) that I could be wearing sweaters! What I’m getting at here is if you shop toward the end of any given season, you will probably find clothes that are still in style and that you’d still be able to wear with the month or two that you have left in that season.
It’s about to be spring in a couple months, so I might go grab a couple of sweaters for me and my husband, like the one below, that I know will be in style this year and next.
Tip: Many of these clearance racks have the previous season’s styles; just put them away for next season, and it’ll be a fun surprise to see your “new clothes” when you open those bins the following year! Also, I don’t have kids yet, but I hear they grow. A lot. Each year. So that means one year’s winter coat or tennis shoes might not fit the following year. Try shopping the end-of-the-year clothes sales to snag the sizes that your kids will probably fit in next year!
3. Mix and Match From Your Closet
One REALLY easy way to save money while staying stylish is, well – not spending money at all. “But wait, Ami, how is that possible if I want a new wardrobe…” Well, let’s start with Alison Lumbatis, a stylist and blogger who has taught me (and thousands of others) lots of ways to own, wear and shop for a capsule wardrobe. One of my favorite tips she gives is to “shop your own closet.” Spend some time really getting to know what’s actually in your closet. Pull out some of your favorite items, then mix and match them in a new way! Even try to get them out of their comfort zone and pull a few pieces out to your bed or a couch or something. Physically move them around to see what new and exciting combinations you can come up with! It’s fun. 😉
Well, there you have it. A couple of fun, simple, and affordable ways you can shop for clothes, keep them out of sight and mind for a few seasons, and look in your own closet for a few new and exciting possibilities! Until next time!
Where are some of your favorite places to score some amazing deals and finds?
About Ami
I’m Ami Hanson, and I’m an outgoing and twirly – yet organized and particular – Texan gal. I’m interested in way too many things, like (in no particular order) food, fashion, home improvement, my husband, my dog, Jesus, grammar/English language, philosophical ponderings, world events – all of it. So I decided to write about it all in my new blog called Being Amiable! I love my amazing husband and silly dog more than most things, and I quote Friends and Gilmore Girls way too much. Welcome to my crazy – but structured – corner of the world!
If you’ve never experienced the Style Challenges® community, let me give you a little taste of what it’s like.
We have nearly 2,000 women in our private Facebook group each season (which sounds kind of crazy, but in a good way!) sharing advice, selfies, shopping tips and even making real life friendships. It’s like a big shopping party with your new best friends. They even give each other immediate feedback from the fitting room on what to buy!
(and if you’ve never checked out the 5 star reviews, I highly recommend making a nice cup of tea and reading through them!)
As one challenger put it: “Style Challenges taught me how to shop, it’s empowering! You get the tools you need to dress for your body type, they show you what’s on trend, give you a shopping list so you don’t buy unnecessary items – and the best part is you get to do it at the stores you already love and work within your own budget!”
We also do weekly giveaways for clothing gift cards, one of the ways that women can enter the giveaway is by answering a question of the week. For our last giveaway for the Winter Style Challenge, our weekly question was:
What fashion/style/beauty tip has been a game changer for you?
As usual, our members stepped up to the plate sharing some of the best tips they’ve learned through Style Challenges and beyond. I was SO impressed with their responses that I even did a Facebook Live last week to highlight some of my favorites.
Style/Fashion (watch the video for more context on some of my favorite tips!)
If it’s not a HECK YES, it’s a no! Don’t buy it unless you absolutely love it.
Mixing prints and patterns
Brown and black can be worn together
Shop for basics that can be mixed and matched to create more outfits for less money
Leopard as a neutral, it has been a game changer!
How to style booties! I had avoided them for years.

You can layer a necklace under a scarf to still be put together when you take it off.
Just because I can get it on doesn’t mean it fits.
Buy clothes that go with MANY things in your closet.
Selfies don’t lie. This has helped me see color issues, fit problems, discern when something is missing…or even help make decisions between 2 or 3 outfits.
Clothes can fit well and look good. No matter my size I do NOT have to compromise.
Through the challenge I am learning to dress the body I have right now, rather than waiting to lose weight. I feel better about myself and I think it is helping me in my weight loss journey. I am beginning to believe that I deserve to dress cute even if my body is not perfect.
Discovering my best colors has been a game changer! I feel more confident in them, and don’t waste money on clothes or lipstick that I end up hating!
The right statement necklace or scarf can really pull an outfit together and change the whole look of an outfit without a huge investment.

Wear a style, cut, and color that makes me look my best instead of wearing what everyone else is wearing.
Buy clothes that make me feel good
You can wear the same outfit, but just by changing accessories you can have a multitude of ‘looks’!
Use what you have available, but be inspired to ‘get dressed’ every day.
Frayed hem jeans! I now can buy jeans that look good at the Goodwill and chop them off to perfection! No special petite size needed.
Spend your budget on quality investment pieces
Fit is more important than the number on the tag.

Frye boots! Of course my answer would be different tomorrow because I’ll appreciate something different. But, today, I appreciate the Frye boots you’ve recommended for years.
Wear a lace bralette instead of a strapless bra. I avoided wearing off the shoulder style because I hated yanking it up all day.
How amazing vests are! I never would have been caught wearing one before and now I own 2 and want more! They are the best outfit completers and super slimming too!
Everyone is different! Your style will evolve! Be you!
Find a community of amazing women who will encourage you to wear what you love and embrace you for who you are.
Heating up my lash curler for a few seconds with the blow dryer – works like a charm!
Orange lipstick under regular concealer to erase the blue under my eyes
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
Filling in eyebrows. Even if you don’t think you need it, I promise it makes your eyes look brighter, more open and your makeup look complete – and watch Alison’s eyebrow tutorial!
Do you see why I love this community so much? They are in one word simply AMAZING. I’d love to have you join me for the next challenge. Spring 2018 will be opening in March but there’s still time to sign up for the 2018 Style Challenges Annual Membership (the best deal!)
It’s the day of the week at GYPO where we celebrate what makes us feel pretty. Let’s face it, in today’s society, it is TOUGH to be a woman. We are expected to be put together at all times while also running a continuous taxi service for our children and preparing healthy meals for our families. Add in finding time to work out, working full-time or part-time jobs (or both!) and keeping a clean house, all while trying not to lose our minds. Who has time for all that?!
It seems like a woman’s work is never done – because it never is! This is why self-care is so important. If we do not take time out of our hectic schedules to pour into ourselves, we will never fully be able to pour into others. We will also never be able to take care of our families as efficiently as possible. And we most certainly will not have the self-confidence to be the beautiful, vibrant women that God designed us to be. Unlocking this “best” version of ourselves is a process, one I like to refer to as “Becoming Fashionably Fit.”
Becoming fashionably fit is essential because it empowers women to find their confidence and unleash their true potential. The truth is, when we look better, we feel better – it just comes naturally! When you are comfortable in your own skin, your confidence radiates. The glow and enthusiasm for life that surround you are completely contagious. But how do you become “fashionably fit?”
1. Make a List
Writing it out is key to getting it done! Grab your favorite journal and pen and follow these steps.
First, write down everything that makes you feel confident. Is it having your makeup done? A cute, new haircut? Some fashionable new clothes? Whatever it is, write it down.
Then write down all of the things that you enjoy doing in your “me” time. It could be going shopping, working out, reading a good book, visiting a local coffee shop, anything that makes you happy.
Finally, make a list of all the things that you will do to help you become more fit: physically, mentally, spiritually and financially.
Choose a workout that you will actually do. If you hate cardio – do not do it! Lift weights or practice yoga instead.
Read some articles on how meal prep and planning can not only save you time, but also allow you and your family to eat better.
Schedule personal development time each day to invest in yourself and never stop learning new things.
Carve out time for your faith, whether that be a study, a podcast, a book, prayer, meditation or some other form that works for you.
Get in control of your finances. Plan out a realistic budget and stick to it. You will be amazed at how this piece carries over into all the other areas as well!
2. Get Involved
Join a community of other like-minded women who are in the same season of life as you. Getting accountability, support and encouragement from other ladies, not to mention the knowledge you will attain, will help you in more ways than you can imagine. You could look for an in-person group where you meet regularly. Do some research online, talk to your friends and check out local Facebook pages to see what is out there. For all you know, the perfect group is right in your own backyard. Or, you could join an online group and get 24/7 support from your “inner circle!” Lots of online groups feature certain products each month and offer video tutorials on the latest hair, makeup and fashion trends. Some even provide healthy recipes and tips on planning nutritious, “kid-friendly” meals. This makes it super easy to hop on whenever is convenient for you and get caught up on all the latest trends. Perhaps this could be a fun way to spend your “me” time.
3. No More Waiting – Start NOW
Do not put it off any longer. It is time to invest in yourself and remember that you are worth it! You are beautifully and wonderfully made and deserve to feel just as gorgeous as you were designed to be. If you need help getting starting, I would love to have you join the exclusive Fashionably Fit Community!
Now get out there and rock the life that you were designed to live – a fashionably fit one indeed!
About Rachel
Hi, I’m Rachel! I am a wife, a certified nutrition coach and a makeup artist in training! As women, I believe that it is crucial to take care of ourselves – on the outside and on the inside – through nutrition, wellness and self-care. I decided to turn my passion into a career, so I became a nutrition and confidence coach helping other women to become “Fashionably Fit.” I love working with other women to help them to see their full potential and truly feel confident and comfortable in their own skin!
While I enjoy thumbing through a fashion magazine or getting my fill of looks from the red carpet, emulating those looks is a pretty hard task. The price tags alone are definitely not in my budget, but the functionality of most of those items, in my reality, although beautiful, are just ridiculous. I have kids, I’m always on the go and I hate to admit that function sometimes wins over fashion.
I have found however, one aspect of the runway that is easy and affordable for everyone to have a piece of….the colors! Fall is all about color, deep, rich color and color is something that anyone can be on trend with. Sometimes it can be as simple as shopping from your own closet or buying that one piece that can make your whole outfit pop. Below are my top five favorite colors of the fall that are currently on trend. Mix and match and see what you can come up with. You might be surprised on what you didn’t even know you liked.
1. Bright Red
Yes, I know this is an exceptionally bold color and one not everyone feels comfortable wearing. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of wearing red. I don’t know why it scares me but it does so I’m going to start small with a necklace or scarf. A shirt that has a pattern or even a shawl could also be an easy way to bring this bold color into my wardrobe.
I never get sick of this color and I’m so excited to see it sticking around for the fall. Because this is one of the “it” colors for the fall it’s available in so many different styles and shades. Olive pants and jackets act as a great neutral while darker greens look great with a medium wash jean.
I am in love with this shade of pink! This is the perfect color going into fall and because it can also act as a neutral, it can be paired with more than you think. Try mixing it with olive green pants from above or jeans with an olive green jacket.
I love the way metallic items can add a touch of shimmer and pop to an outfit. Like the color red, it can be a little intense to go with an all over metallic look, but adding in this trend as a cute shoe or purse can be just the right amount.
Okay so I know floral is not technically a color but it is so pretty and has the power to combine a bunch of the beautiful fall colors. Florals from the spring are now morphing into these bolder florals for the fall and I can’t help but love them. The best thing about florals is they come in so many different pattern sizes so there’s something for everyone. Not ready to totally commit to a full floral print? Try adding a scarf to a simple color top to add some interest.

I am so glad I was part of the Fall 2019 Style Challenge. It gave me confidence and so many great outfitt ideas. The ladies in the group were very supportive and I will defintetly be doing another challenge in the future.
Betty Weyandt December 20, 2019
I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.
Kirstin Rasmussen November 20, 2019
Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.
Michelle Kline November 20, 2019
Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.
Chosen Faith November 19, 2019
GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.

I love GYPO!!! I finally feel put together and stylish! The shopping lists and outfit combinations make shopping and getting dressed effortless.
