How I Feel About Microblading One Year Later

How I Feel About Microblading One Year Later

So the other day I was thinking about my eyebrows and that it’s been almost a year since my microblading experience. If you were around last year then you were with me through the whole saga. All two months of it. Yes. It takes two full months to get the whole way through this process. I thought to be interesting to update you guys on what I thought about the experience, where I’m at with it right now, and if I would actually do it again. For more details, check out my weekly Coffee Chat video below.

First, let me start off by linking up the blog post here that I did about my microblading experience because it really details every single step of the process.

So why did I decided to give microblading a try? As I’m getting older, I noticed that my eyebrows were starting to thin around the ends and I was spending a lot of my “getting ready time” filling in my brows. Then our business manager Lauren did hers and they turned out beautiful! That’s when I decided I was all in and began doing my research.

Research First

Research is something you definitely want to do before you begin this process. Follow whoever you’re considering on Instagram or Facebook, wherever you can see examples of their work. I ended up finding someone local and started studying the pictures of what she had done. When I made the final decision to use her, I was then directed to do more research on Pinterest and find at least three to four different sets of eyebrows that I really, really liked and show her the pictures. Then I needed to describe what I liked most about them, was it the shape? Was it the color? Or was it the thickness and fullness?

On To Phase One

Once we decided upon the shape I was happy then she tediously drew them on checking and double-checking that everything looked right. That was the longest part of the process but I completely appreciated her taking her time and her attention to detail. The next step was then applying the numbing cream for 30 minutes before getting started on the actual process.

She started with the initial outline of the brows, which for me, was the most painful part. I could feel and hear the scraping. Yikes! But once we got the outline done, then she was able to again go over that with a light skin cream, numbing it a little bit more. Then she started actually drawing in the individual hairs on each of my brows. After she was done, she then applied a color dye and let it set. The whole process took about two hours then it was on to phase two.

Phase Two – Healing

Next up comes the healing process which takes about six weeks. When you first get home, you’ll notice your brows get super, super dark and then they start to scab over. This is totally normal and part of the process. Make sure you follow the aftercare instructions that are given to you. I used grapeseed oil to moisturize my brows which is a really important part of the process. The less dry your scabs get, the better off you are and your end result will be better. So after six weeks of moisturizing my brows three times a day, I was excited to finally enjoy my new, darker, fuller brows!

Final Verdict

Was this whole process worth it? Absolutely yes! Overall, it has been a HUGE time saver for me both at home and when I go to get my brows cleaned up. Plus I don’t ever have to worry about getting my eyebrows screwed up because it doesn’t matter how much they take off because I still have the tattoo micro bladed under there.

However, one of the downsides is that the sun and anti-aging products with retinol or vitamin C, will fade brows faster. I knew this going into it but I still use products that contain these ingredients. Over the months I have noticed that my brows are starting to fade a little, particularly on the ends. I am filling them in with just a little bit of powder but is it a big deal? No. Am I back to doing my brows again? Maybe a little but I can go back and get them touched up. It’s recommended that you go back every two years but I will probably go back sooner. And getting them touched up takes way less time and money than the original process too. So again, yes, I love my brows and I think it was totally worth it!

Your turn! Have you had microblading done? What was your experience? Did you think it was worth it?

Pretty Fix – October

Pretty Fix – October

Happy October everyone and welcome to the Pretty Fix! I can’t believe it’s already October! It seems like not long ago we were all excited to welcome spring and with that, the warmer weather and now here we are looking forward to some of that crisp fall air. I’m excited for this month’s Pretty Fix because I’m showcasing one of this season’s more intimidating trends, wide leg jeans. If you’ve been on this earth as long as I have, then this probably isn’t the first time you’ve seen this trend. Did you love them before? But now the question is, “How to wear them the second time around?” Today’s Pretty Fix features one easy way to style your wide leg jeans, but if you’d like to see more ideas, click here.

1. Gold Drop Earrings

I love a great set of gold earrings but I’m particularly partial to these earrings from A+A.😉They pair perfectly with this look however you can also opt for a simple gold hoop or stud.

2. Plum Blouse

This is one of my favorite fall colors! Because the shade can vary from a pretty wine color to a rich berry, you’re sure to find a shade that looks great with your skin tone. For this particular outfit, pick a shirt that is either more form fitting or long enough that you can do a full tuck or half tuck.

3. Wide Leg Jeans

I’ve said this with other items and wide leg jeans are no exception, it’s all about proportions! Because they are looser around the hips and get wider as they go down to the ankle, it’s important not to lose your waist. The key is wearing either a more form fitting shirt or a shirt that you can tuck in. Now whether you do the full tuck or the half tuck, that’s more of a personal preference, just be sure not to lose your waist.

4. Black Ankle Boots

You can never go wrong with having a pair of black ankle boots. They are an essential fall closet staple and can be worn with multiple styles of pants from skinny to bootcut and in this case, wide leg.

5. Layered Necklace

A layered necklace is the perfect middle ground between a simple pendant and a statement necklace. The many layers make it seem bigger but because the layers are usually dainty, it’s not quite as bold as a statement necklace would be. This is a great piece to have around and because many layered necklaces are able to be separated, you can create multiple looks with just one piece.

6. Black Handbag

Another closet staple you can’t go wrong with is having a timeless black handbag that you love! If you plan on investing in this piece, make sure to pick one that suits your lifestyle and what you carry in your purse on a daily basis. If it’s too small or too big it will spend more time in your closet then on your arm.

Bonus: Flare Jeans

If you’re still not sure about the wide leg jeans it’s okay. I always say that you should step outside your comfort zone once in a while but not to the point where you feel totally unsure or uncomfortable in what you’re wearing. With this look, you can easily swap out the wide leg jeans with some flare jeans. They are still very much on trend for the season but fit a little tighter around the waist and legs and start to flare after the knee.

In Real Life

Below I’m wearing this month’s Pretty Fix with one exception, I substituted the black ankle boots and wore my snake print booties. Unfortunately, they are sold out but here is a similar pair. I am just loving the way this outfit looks and feels and the plum blouse is perfect for fall. The shirt I’m wearing was so popular it’s also sold out but there are plenty of options above for you to choose from.

Your turn! Are you going to give wide leg jeans a try? Is it a heck yes or a no?

Pretty Fix – The May List

Pretty Fix – The May List

Once again, Pretty Fix is back by popular demand! I didn’t realize just how much you loved this feature, but your requests to bring it back have been so overwhelming that they couldn’t be ignored! For those of you who are new to GYPO you’re probably asking, ‘What is a Pretty Fix?” The Pretty Fix is my recommendation of five pieces you can buy to stay on trend each month. You get to shop where you want (possibly even your closet) and spend what you want! The idea for it was born out of your dissatisfaction with the quality and price of some of the box styling services out there. While there are those that swear by them, there are also those who just can’t seem to win with them. That’s where the Pretty Fix comes in.

In this Pretty Fix, I’m showcasing one of the big trends I’ve seen taking over this summer, snake print! This neutral pattern is popping up on everything from shoes to earrings and everything in between. And yes, you did hear me right, snake print is considered a neutral so don’t be afraid to pair it with color!

Stylish and trendy summery white eyelet dress with snake print sandals bracelets and straw bag

1. White Eyelet Dress

This white eyelet dress is a classic closet staple that just screams ‘bring on summer!’ It’s light and airy and perfect for this time of year. And there is so much good going on with this particular dress. From the button up top to the tie at the waist and the eyelets, the details are simple but make a big impact. Not sure about the dress? You can always switch out the dress for a pair of white shorts and a white top. And the accessory possibilities are truly endless!

2. Hoop Earrings

Another classic that is making a big comeback. Big or small, gold or silver, hoops can be seen everywhere. I love the not so perfectly round hoops that add some extra character. They are simple and classic and go with everything. And the best part, you probably already have a pair which makes shopping for this item as easy as walking to your jewelry box.

3. Snake Print Bracelet

I am in love with this snake print bracelet and it looks even better in person! I love that each of these is a separate bracelet so I can wear them all together or just the snake print one alone. It seems no piece of clothing or accessory is immune to snake print, it’s everywhere and on everything!

4. Straw Bag

This is another item that screams summer! It’s reminiscent of the big rattan bags often toted to the beach, but this is a chic, scaled-down version and the striped lining gives it that extra fun touch. Check out some of the other fun straw purses I found below.

5. Snake Print Sandals

These sandals are the perfect mix of trendy, sophisticated and casual. I love that they are flats but the snake print turns it up a notch making them perfect to go with anything from shorts, to jeans and of course, the perfect white summer sundress. Dress it down with a pair of snake print slip-ons or dress it up with a cute snake print heel!

Pretty Fix: The June List

June is here, the kids are out of school and it’s time for easy outfits that you can look cute in while enjoying everything summer has to offer. This month’s Pretty Fix is just that – an easy outfit that’s super comfy yet still put together and cute. It checks all the boxes! And you just might be able to shop your closet for most if not all of these pieces.

If you’re new around here, the Pretty Fix is my recommendation of five pieces you can buy to stay on trend each month. You get to shop where you want and spend what you want!

Pretty Fix: The June List

1. Graphic Tee

You know I love a good graphic tee and wear them practically year-round! They’re a fun way to reflect your personality and add interest to outfits, plus they’re perfect for pairing up with printed shorts and skirts.

2. Printed Shorts

If you add one pair of shorts to your wardrobe this summer, make them printed! There’s so many possibilities with this pair. You can wear them with a solid top in a coordination color, mix them them with a striped top or pair them up with your favorite graphic tees. They can also be easily dressed up with a pair of wedge sandals.

3. Fun Earrings

When I got these black fringe earrings, I didn’t think I’d wear them much but they’ve been one of my most worn pairs so far this summer. They’re super lightweight and go with both dressy and casual outfits.

4. Striped Tote

It’s hard to accessorize in the summer months when the heat is on, a striped tote with bright tassels adds color and pattern to your outfit without adding heat or layers. Oh and it doubles as a great replacement for your regular purse!

5. Comfy Kicks

I’m more of a flip flop girl in the summer but sometimes open toed shoes aren’t always practical. A comfy pair of white sneakers works for all your activities and goes with just about everything. If they get dirty, toss them in the washer and let them dry in the sun.

BONUS OUTFIT IDEA!

Here’s another styling idea using some of the pieces in this month’s Pretty Fix.
