While I enjoy thumbing through a fashion magazine or getting my fill of looks from the red carpet, emulating those looks is a pretty hard task. The price tags alone are definitely not in my budget, but the functionality of most of those items, in my reality, although beautiful, are just ridiculous. I have kids, I’m always on the go and I hate to admit that function sometimes wins over fashion.
I have found however, one aspect of the runway that is easy and affordable for everyone to have a piece of….the colors! Fall is all about color, deep, rich color and color is something that anyone can be on trend with. Sometimes it can be as simple as shopping from your own closet or buying that one piece that can make your whole outfit pop. Below are my top five favorite colors of the fall that are currently on trend. Mix and match and see what you can come up with. You might be surprised on what you didn’t even know you liked.
1. Bright Red
Yes, I know this is an exceptionally bold color and one not everyone feels comfortable wearing. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of wearing red. I don’t know why it scares me but it does so I’m going to start small with a necklace or scarf. A shirt that has a pattern or even a shawl could also be an easy way to bring this bold color into my wardrobe.
I never get sick of this color and I’m so excited to see it sticking around for the fall. Because this is one of the “it” colors for the fall it’s available in so many different styles and shades. Olive pants and jackets act as a great neutral while darker greens look great with a medium wash jean.
I am in love with this shade of pink! This is the perfect color going into fall and because it can also act as a neutral, it can be paired with more than you think. Try mixing it with olive green pants from above or jeans with an olive green jacket.
I love the way metallic items can add a touch of shimmer and pop to an outfit. Like the color red, it can be a little intense to go with an all over metallic look, but adding in this trend as a cute shoe or purse can be just the right amount.
Okay so I know floral is not technically a color but it is so pretty and has the power to combine a bunch of the beautiful fall colors. Florals from the spring are now morphing into these bolder florals for the fall and I can’t help but love them. The best thing about florals is they come in so many different pattern sizes so there’s something for everyone. Not ready to totally commit to a full floral print? Try adding a scarf to a simple color top to add some interest.

It’s the day of the week at GYPO where we celebrate what makes us feel pretty. Whether it’s a new outfit, hairstyle, or makeup, the I Feel Pretty link up is about anything and everything that makes your life prettier. Even if you’re not a blogger, you can still play along. Just tell me what made you feel pretty this week in the comments.
After having kids I fell into the makeup rut that I’m sure most of us go through. I became an all or nothing girl. I either had everything done from the powder and concealer, to the eyes, lips and cheeks, or, nothing at all. Before kids I would take my time carefully and correctly placing each element on my face. It took some time to make this look a reality but I enjoyed it.
Then, a new reality set in, I had a baby, then another and another. I had three kids in four and a half years and how I spent my time completely changed. My makeup routine took too long for what limited time I had now and I didn’t know any other way, so I just stopped wearing any all together. I would save my makeup for church, date nights or fancy events. Sadly I didn’t feel pretty and I eventually realized I needed to have a middle ground.
Everything I’ve read said play with your makeup, try new looks, new ideas, but I never did. I always had an excuse. I never wanted to try anything new in the morning because I was always in a rush and the last thing I wanted to do was leave the house looking like a clown. And at night I was just too darn tired to put effort in, I wanted to get the kids in bed, shower and get in bed myself, makeup was the last thing on my mind. However, one morning something came over me, I felt a small desire to be hit with the pretty stick, I didn’t need to be smacked over the head with it, but just a tap would do. I didn’t have much time but I realized that even if it didn’t look perfect, I knew I was putting in some effort.
Four Simple Steps to Perfect Mom Makeup
So, I started by covering up the dark circles under my eyes (thanks kids), then used a light shadow, some mascara and some lipgloss.
Step 1: Conceal – Cover dark shadows and even out skin tone with a blendable concealer. Tip: Try one with light diffusing or reflective ingredients to brighten under eye area.
Step 3: Mascara – Apply one to two coats to define your eyes. Tip: Curl your lashes before applying mascara to make eyes look more awake or try a brand with a brush that does the curling for you.
Step 4: Lip Gloss – A pretty pink gloss works for everyone. Tip: Splurge a little on one that feels truly special to add a little luxury to your routine.
I wasn’t in full makeup but it was enough that I looked awake and put together and it took me five minutes or less. I went through my day feeling good, which I liked, and the icing on the cake came that evening when my husband complimented me on my experimental look. He couldn’t put his finger on what exactly I had done, but he said I looked different, but a good different. He liked it! It was then that I knew this simplified way of putting on makeup was more than enough. I went from an all or nothing look, to having something in the middle and now I find myself wearing makeup more by wearing less.
Just thinking about playing with your makeup routine isn’t enough, actually do it! You might be surprised by what you find you like and how easy your daily makeup routine can become. Don’t wait for a special occasion or a night out to feel pretty, remember that you deserve to feel pretty everyday!
Road trips with the kids equal fun chaos! A simplified makeup routine helps me get everyone out of the hotel and back on the road quickly, and I still feel put together. Photo courtesy of my oldest, Sophia.

I Feel Pretty Link Up
It’s the day of the week at GYPO where we celebrate what makes us feel pretty. Whether it’s a new outfit, hairstyle, or makeup, the I Feel Pretty link up is about anything and everything that makes your life prettier. Even if you’re not a blogger, you can still play along. Just tell me what made you feel pretty this week in the comments.
Today I’m announcing something that I honestly never imagined would happen in my wildest dreams – the launch of a product line.
But thanks to all of YOU for continuously pushing me out of my comfort zone, it’s a reality that I’m still pinching myself about!
The GYPO Silk Scarf Collection launched today. If you’re new around here, this whole project was kicked off late last year in response to requests to create our very own GYPO product line. After sending out a survey asking you for details of what exactly it would look like, it was decided that our first products would be a line of silk scarves.
We commissioned a Brooklyn-based female artist to create watercolor designs and put them out to a vote by all of you. These top three vote getters have now been turned into our first silk scarf line.
Each design has been made into two sizes – a long 40″ x 70″ rectangular scarf in a lightweight gauzy silk habotai and a square 20″ x 20″ bandana scarf in luxurious silk charmeuse.
There is so much love and intention woven into every inch of these scarves. We made conscious decisions about everything – from the female artist who created them to the high quality materials and manufacturing in the US. Even our eco-friendly packaging is from a woman owned business. But what’s nearest and dearest to my heart is that we’ll be donating a portion of profits to Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support right here in Dallas. Genesis is an amazing organization that provides women and children in domestic violence situations a path to lead an independent and safe life.
Simply put, these scarves are wearable art that supports a great cause – to make a difference in the lives of women in the US. Today I’m showing you six different ways to style the scarves in the GYPO Collection.
1. Wear it as a Wrap
Long scarves have versatility as a scarf, wrap, shawl and even a swim cover up! To master this look, simply unfold the rectangular scarf to it’s full length and drape it over your shoulders.
This classic will never go out of style. Fold your rectangular scarf accordion style along the long edge. Starting in the front of your neck, criss cross the ends behind your head, then bring them forward. Pull down to adjust the loop on the front of your neck.
So French, so chic and so on trend for spring! Fold a square bandana scarf in half from corner to corner. Starting at the corner of the triangle, begin rolling it up in about a three inch width. Place around your neck and tie the ends off to the side in a single knot.
Arm candy doesn’t have to be just jewelry! Using the same fold as the neck scarf, lay the folded scarf flat on the top of your wrist, criss cross the ends behind your wrist and bring them to the front. Tie a small knot on top of wrist. (Tip: It’s helpful to have someone else tie the knot for you!)
You can use these styling ideas for any long or square scarf but if you feel so inclined, I would greatly appreciate your support in this labor of love. These silk scarves are an instant classic that you can wear season after season. Our pricing has been set fairly for a US-made silk scarf, while still allowing us to cover our costs and provide a donation to Genesis Women’s Shelter.
Because they are manufactured in small batches, quantities are limited. Visit gypocollection.com to place your order. (Orders ship in 2-3 business days via USPS first class mail and are currently limited to the 48 contiguous US states)
It’s Your Turn: How will you be wearing scarves this spring? Tell us in the comments!

Welcome to another edition of SAHMonday – weekly outfit inspiration just for the stay at home and work from home moms of the world (like me!) who aren’t heading out of the house on Monday morning. You can check out the other outfits in this series here.
These outfits are perfect for when you want to feel comfortable, yet put together, so that you can face the day and any errands you may need to run. Plus, most of these outfit formulas can be pulled straight from your closet. If you don’t have my exact pieces, that’s ok. Just use one of the substitutions that I recommend.
The Controversy of the Neck Scarf
Spring trends have been a hot topic in my private GYPO Style Challenge Facebook group and on social media in general. One trend that keeps popping up and causing a ruckus is the neck scarf (aka square scarf).
It’s true, neck scarves are a big trend for spring 2017 but many of you have been through this trend a time or two (90’s for me) and aren’t so sure you want to go there again.
But the biggest question/concern I get is “how do I wear it without feeling like a flight attendant?”
I understand, I really do.
It’s kind of a tricky thing to pull off. The key is making sure the rest of your outfit does NOT look like a flight attendant. Here’s how I’m wearing mine.
Blush Top + Neck Scarf + Skinny Jeans + Lace Up Flats
If that outfit doesn’t have you convinced to give the neck scarf a try, then here’s another option. These little scarves are SUPER CUTE tied to the handle of a purse or tote bag. It still adds interest and pattern to the outfit but it takes it off your neck. I’ve even seen them tied around wrists and worn as hair accessories.
Today’s post is full of a whole lot of randomness, so bear with me! Last Friday, I made the decision to get five inches of my hair chopped off. This is the shortest it’s been since I was pregnant with my daughter Aubrey – 18 years ago. (For a funny story about that haircut, watch the first 2 minutes of my Facebook video below.) Honestly it was a little bit of a shock to me, I wanted a change but maybe not quite this short. It’s growing on me though!
Here’s the new haircut in case you didn’t see it on social media yet.
And yes, as soon as I learn how to style this bad boy on my own (if I ever master it!), I’ll do a tutorial video for the blog!
Here’s a Facebook video I did last Friday right after I got it done, you can see the back and sides of the cut a little better in it. I’m also sharing my five workout essentials and how to build your own activewear capsule wardrobe by mixing and matching them.
Click the image below for more info on the 2017 Activewear Capsule and how you can get your shopping list and outfits for just $19.
And finally, a few of you asked about the outfit I was wearing in the video so here’s a full length shot of it. Obviously I just can’t get enough of my winter white cords! The navy sweater is actually a mixed media tunic, the back of it is sheer fabric. This exact tunic is sold out but click here for a similar one for under $20.
Here are the accessories I paired up with this outfit, all from Stella and Dot’s spring collection. One of the biggest perks of being a stylist is getting my discount on their accessories and sampling them at 50% off! The neutrals in this necklace go with just about everything. This cross body bag is my first piece from their Covet collection and I’m in love! It’s buttery soft and so well made.

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.

Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.

GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
