Five Ways to Wear It – Combat Boots

Five Ways to Wear It – Combat Boots

Hi Pretties! I am back with an all-new, comfort zone busting Ways to Wear It and today I’m going to be showing you how I’m styling my combat boots for winter. Yes I did say combat boots! For these looks I’m pairing them up with some of my winter closet staple favorites. But before I get into that, I want to explain why combat boots. Now we’re into winter 2020 and I really wanted to try something totally new, totally bold, and totally outside of my comfort zone so I bought myself a pair of combat boots. I normally don’t do rugged boots. I do the cutesy little ankle boots and all the feminine-looking boots, but there’s just something that feels so right about these right now. They’re comfortable, they really do go with a lot of things and I think if there’s anything we learned this year is that we like to feel put together AND comfortable.

Option #1

Black Vest + Plaid Button-Down + Graphic Tee + Black Leggings + Combat Boots

In my first outfit, I pair up my combat boots with my faux leather leggings, a long flannel shirt, and I have on a graphic tee under there that says Cheers! It’s a little bit festive and totally comfortable. Then I threw on my black quilted vest to finish off this cozy and warm casual look.

Option #2

Plaid Scarf + Black Vest + Neutral Sweater + Black Jeans + Combat Boots

For outfit number two I went with a teensy-weensy little bit more of a dressy look. This time I paired up my combat boots with my black ankle skinny jeans and a cozy beige sweater. I finished off this look with my plaid scarf. If you want some extra warmth you can definitely put on that black quilted vest as a top layer to this outfit to.

Option #3

Black Cardigan + Solid Dress + Combat Boots

Outfit number three! I can’t say a combat dress and boots is something I ever thought I’d be wearing, but here we are and I’m kind of loving it. I hope you are, too. I am just totally blown away. This is really unexpected and it’s something super far outside of my comfort zone. But I just love the juxtaposition of the tough-looking combat boots with a girly dress. And I don’t know, it kind of makes me feel like a cool mom. Another fun option would be to swap out the black cardigan for a black moto jacket!

Option #4

Plaid Scarf + Neutral Cardigan + Chambray Button-Down + Dark Wash Jeans + Combat Boots

Outfit number four is venturing back into my comfort zone. I just went in and grabbed a bunch of closet staples. I’ve got my black jeans back on again with my chambray button-down shirt and my cozy beige cardigan. I finished off this look with my plaid scarf and of course, the combat boots add a little bit of edge to all these closet staples.

Option #5

Solid Tunic Sweater + Black Leggings + Combat Boots

Last but not least, for outfit number five I went with a winter classic, the long tunic sweater and faux leather leggings, updated courtesy of my brand new combat boots.

There you have it! That is it for my five winter outfit formulas featuring combat boots. Is this a trend you can see yourself getting behind or are you still on the fence? Let me know in the comments. Also, all five of these outfit formulas are in the Outfit Formulas® Winter 2020 Capsule Wardrobe! Click HERE if you want to learn more and play along. See you there!

Five Ways to Wear It – The Blazer

Five Ways to Wear It – The Blazer

I’m back with another Five Ways to Wear It and this month I’m featuring a pretties request, the blazer! A while ago I put out the question to you all asking what you’d like to see styled on a future Ways to Wear It and this was an item that came up a lot. I was super excited when this happened because I absolutely love blazers. I’ve loved them since I was a teenager. I know that’s a little bit weird, but I was a teen in the 90s. I was watching Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Will, Carlton and Ashley all got to wear those cool blazers and Bel Air Academy and I was hooked. I’ve been a blazer lover ever since. People ask me all the time if a blazer is still in style because they’re not seeing them as much as they used to. Yes, they are always in style. They are a classic so even though they’re not always in vogue, they are always in style. If you have one hanging around in your closet, I’m going to show you five of my favorite ways to pair up my blazer with closet staples that you probably already have so you can shop your closet for these pieces.

The blazer that I’m styling and all these outfits is a classic camel blazer from J.Crew Factory. I promise you, if you’re in the market for a blazer, you cannot go wrong with a classic camel blazer. It’s going to work with everything and I want to show you just how easy it is to dress this piece up or down. Since all of the items are from my closet I’ve done my best to link up the same items if they are still available, if they aren’t, I’ve linked up similar items. Now let’s get started!

Option #1

Camel Blazer + Leopard Top + Black Bottoms + Bright Shoes

I started off by pairing my camel blazer with a leopard blouse, high waisted black skinny jeans with some red heels because we all need a pop of color in our lives. Right? All of these basics are from J.Crew Factory however some of them are from last year so I’ll link up similar items. I also wanted to feature a more casual version of this look which is also pictured above where I styled it with a lightweight leopard sweater but you can also opt for a leopard t-shirt and then I added in some red flats instead of the heels.

Option #2

Camel Blazer + Graphic Tee + Denim Bottoms + White Sneakers

Now, for something a bit more casual, and something that totally screams Alison. I’m pairing up my blazer with my graphic tee, my high waisted jeans, and some sneakers. Now, normally my inclination would be to grab my moto jacket and throw it on as my topper. But I have to say, I’m really, really digging the blazer with this. What do you guys think? Would you try this outfit out?

Option #3

Camel Blazer + Black Top + Black Bottoms + Leopard Shoes

Look number three, let’s dress it back up. If I worked in an office, you better believe this outfit would be in heavy rotation because it’s so simple. Just pair up some black ankle pants, a black fitted T-shirt, and top this look with the blazer. Add in leopard heels and voila, it’s absolute perfection. And I just love column dressing. I love starting out with an all-black or all-white base and then adding on different toppers, shoes, and accessories to change up the look.

Option #4

Camel Blazer + Chambray Top + White Bottoms + Snake Print Shoes

Now for number four. Who says you can’t wear white jeans in the fall and winter months? Definitely not me. I think white jeans are a year-round staple and I love to pair mine up in the fall with my buttoned-down chambray shirt and my snake print mules or ankle boots and then throw on the blazer for a little bit of added warmth.

Option #5

Camel Blazer + Striped Top + Black Bottoms + Leopard Shoes

Last but not least it’s outfit number five. We’re going to transition this blazer from fall into winter territory by adding a tissue-weight striped turtleneck to my high waisted black jeans and then finish off with my leopard print booties.

That’s it for my five ways to wear a blazer. Which one was your favorite? Be sure to tell me in the comments and if there’s a piece hanging in your closet right now that you want to see me style on the next five ways to wear, be sure to let me know that too.

5 Ways to Wear It – The Graphic Tee

5 Ways to Wear It – The Graphic Tee

I am back with an all-new Five Ways to Wear It! I’m so excited to be back, it’s been way too long. This month I’m going to show you five ways to wear one of my all-time favorite pieces, the graphic tee. I’ve got to extol the virtues of the graphic tees upon you. If you do not have a collection yet, I highly recommend you start one, and here’s why. Graphic tees are awesome in every possible way, seriously, they are. They allow me to show off my personality through what I’m wearing. I’m a T-shirt and jeans kind of girl and graphic tees are my way amp up my look and express things I like. For example, my favorite band, the greatest of all time, the Beatles! You can also choose words or phrases or other things that you love. I love to travel, so I’ve got one with some travel phrases on them. I’ve also got ones with some French on them. They add a little bit of personality and detail to your outfits and they’re such an easy and inexpensive way to update your wardrobe. They’re also going to be perfect as we transition into fall. Now for my Five Ways to Wear a graphic tee!

Option #1

Neutral Cardigan + Graphic Tee + Medium Wash Jeans + Snake Print Shoes

For this first look I paired up my graphic tee with two other new pieces I got for the fall. I got these new high waisted jeans with some cute distressing at the bottom and this cozy sweater, perfect for your fall transition days. You can definitely remove the sweater if it’s still too hot. I finish it off with a pair of snake print mules because snake print is around yet again for fall 2020.

Option #2

Denim Jacket + Graphic Tee + Kelly Green Skirt + Neutral Shoes

I knew I wanted to do something totally out of my comfort zone with this graphic tee, so the only thing that I could think of was pairing it up with a skirt. I paired it up with this Kelly Green pleated skirt that I got in the spring and I absolutely love this together. I topped it off with a denim jacket. If you’re a warmer climate like I am, may not need the top layer and that’s fine. This outfit can definitely stand along with just these two pieces. Then I finished it off with a pair of neutral sandals. This look is perfect for fall because you can add the jacket for those cooler mornings and then take it off if it gets warmer later in the day!

Option #3

Yellow Cardigan + Graphic Tee + Black Bottoms + Leopard Shoes

Let’s flip it back to another casual outfit that I would totally wear for working from home. I love this outfit so much. Yellow and rust are the big color trends of fall 2020 and if you don’t have one of those colors in your closet yet, then you might want to add one. It’s an easy way to update and refresh your wardrobe a little bit. This time I paired up my Beatles graphic tee with some simple black skinny jeans and a yellow lightweight cardigan that I got at H&M. I love their lightweight cardigan so much because I can wear them year-round. Then I added my leopard print mules because every outfit’s better with a little bit of leopard.

Option #4

Black Moto Jacket + Graphic Tee + Leopard Bottoms + Neutral Shoes

Now, who says you can’t dress up a graphic tee? Not me! I love that you can pair up a casual piece like the graphic tee with a leopard print pencil skirt, moto jacket, and neutral heels and make it look totally office appropriate. Again, it’s just about adding that fun punch of personality and a little bit of detail to the outfit that really defines your style. I absolutely love this outfit so much and the moto jacket on top to give it a little bit of polishing, a little bit of edge. It’s the perfect outfit!

Option #5

Graphic Tee + Olive Bottoms + Snake Print Shoes

For my fifth and final look, I opted out of putting on a top layer and I got to tell you, it was hard because I really, really wanted to. However, I wanted to illustrate to you that a graphic tee can stand on its own because it does add enough interest and details to the outfit that you don’t necessarily need that top layer. You could definitely add the denim jacket, even a chambray shirt, or a moto jacket to this outfit, but it absolutely does not need it. This time I paired my graphic tee up with my olive jeans and some snake print sneakers. It’s the perfect outfit for running errands and getting stuff done.

I have to share with you a little tiny secret. Can you keep a secret? OK, good. This Beatles graphic tee from H&M was the very first piece that I spotted that I knew had to be apart of the Outfit Formulas Fall 2020 Capsule Wardrobe which is going to be released this Friday! You don’t have to get this exact graphic tee, but if you decide to, it is definitely on the shopping list.

Your turn! Do you love graphic tees as much as I do? What’s your favorite graphic tee?

Ways to Wear It – White Shorts

Ways to Wear It – White Shorts

This month I am featuring white shorts in an all-new Ways to Wear It. Let’s talk about white shorts for a minute. They’re kind of scary, right? This is a piece of feedback that I get most often from the Get Your Pretty On Pretties. A lot of times we have this preconceived notion that we don’t like white jeans or shorts without ever trying them on. They can push us way outside of our comfort zones yet once we find the perfect pair, they can quickly become one of our favorite closet staples. Trust me when I tell you that there is a pair of white shorts out there for everyone. But if you’re just not into shorts, I totally get it. The great thing about these outfit formulas is that you can swap out the shorts for a pair of white denim pants, crops or even a wide leg. Dress these looks up with heels or wedges or dress them down with flip flops. Make these looks your own and have fun with them! Plus all of these looks are part of the Outfit Formulas™ Summer 2020 Wardrobe Capsule!

Option #1

Kimono + White Tee + White Bottoms + Neutral Shoes

This first look is a simple white V-neck linen tee paired up with my white shorts and then topped with a lightweight kimono. Kimonos are amazing for the summer months! They are an easy way to add tons of visual interest to any outfit without adding heat which is crucial for Texas summers. You could pair this up with just the white on white if you’re feeling brave or you can add any color kimono on top. I paired this up with my flat Tory Burch sandals, but you can also make this a bit dressier by adding in a pair of neutral wedges, which would make it totally ready for date night.

Option #2

Blue/White Top + White Bottoms + Bright Shoes

This one is super simple. I bought this blue and white stripes flutter sleeve top at Old Navy this past spring and it’s a perfect piece to take me into the summer months too! I paired that up with my white shorts and added some red flat sandals to give it a pop of color. For some extra fun, I also added some multicolored beaded earrings which help add some additional interest to this outfit.

Option #3

Black Top + White Bottoms + Leopard Shoes

For this look, we’re going to take things up a notch for a slightly dressier outfit by adding a black sleeveless blouse with the white shorts. This time I’m pairing them with my leopard wedges, which are fun and again, this is a great date night look if you want to do something a little bit dressier. I also added in my tortoise resin earrings to give it a little bit of extra pizzazz. If you don’t want to do the wedges or if you want to do this for every day, you could swap it out for a black T-shirt and then definitely add some leopard flats.

Option #4

Gray Tee + White Bottoms + Snake Print Shoes

I’m back to casual for outfit number four. I paired up my white shorts with my favorite gray V-neck t-shirt. I don’t know why, but this has always been one of my favorite outfit formulas for summer. This time I paired it up with some snake print flat sandals, which snake print is totally on-trend again for summer 2020. I finished this look off with my hat for a little bit of fun.

Option #5

Bright Top + White Bottoms + Leopard Shoes

Last but not least I’m pairing up my white shorts with a bright tie hem t-shirt. Tie hems are another great way to add detail and interest to an outfit without adding heat. If you have to skip your top layers in the summer, sometimes your outfits can feel a little bit boring. You can easily fix this by looking for tops with cute little details like this. I promise you can still add plenty of interest in the summer. I also put on my leopard flat sandals and I am wearing my beaded hoop hearings again just to give it that little extra something.

Which one was your favorite? Tell me in the comments and if you have a way to pair them up that you’d like to share with us, then let me know!

Ways to Wear It – The Chambray Shirt

Ways to Wear It – The Chambray Shirt

I’m back with an all-new Five Ways To Wear It! This time I’m gonna be styling one of my all-time favorite closet staples, no it’s not the striped shirt but it’s the chambray shirt! You guys know that I put a chambray shirt on almost every single capsule wardrobe shopping list for Outfit Formulas and for good reason. I want to show you just how versatile this piece of clothing is. You can wear it as a shirt just as it is, or you can put it on over other things. These are my five favorite ways to wear it, including some dress up ways that you may not have considered.

Option #1

Chambray Shirt + Striped Top + White Bottoms + Snake Print Shoes

For my first look, I threw my chambray shirt on over my striped shirt and buttoned it about halfway down. You can leave it untucked or do a half-tuck as I did here. Then I paired it up with a simple pair of white jeans and my snake print sneakers. I think this is the perfect spring outfit for running around. Not too heavy, not too lightweight, but a chambray shirt just makes a great top layer. You could also skip the striped top if you wanted to and just wear the chambray shirt untucked or with the half-tuck.

Option #2

Chambray Shirt + Leopard Skirt + Neutral Heels + Statement Necklace

For this look, I’m dressing up the chambray shirt a bit. I paired it with my leopard skirt and did a full tuck on my shirt. Then I added some nude heels and I put on a little bit of bling with my statement necklace. You can totally make this dressed up for the office by pairing it with any printed or solid skirt then just add a little statement necklace and some heels and you’re ready to go!

Option #3

Chambray Shirt + Black Bottoms + Bright Shoes + Leopard Belt

This look is one of my go-to favorites for spring and fall. This outfit formula is just a chambray shirt tucked into black jeans with a pair of bright shoes. In this case, I have my red loafers on. Then I add a leopard print belt just for a little bit of fun because leopard makes everything better, right?

Option #4

Chambray Shirt + Black T-Shirt Dress + Leopard Shoes

This look is sporty and fun. I put on a black t-shirt dress and then added my chambray top over that. I then tied the shirt in a knot at the bottom but you can leave it open and untied if you want. This is a short sleeve dress and by adding my chambray shirt it gives me just a little bit of warmth and it also finishes out the outfit a little bit. Finally, I added some fun leopard sneakers because again, a little leopard makes everything better.

Option #5

Chambray Shirt + White Tank + Pink Pleated Skirt + Neutral Wedges

I have been trying to find new ways to pair up this pink pleated skirt. It was my fun purchase for the Spring 2020 Outfit Formula’s Capsule Wardrobe. It’s totally outside of my comfort zone because I don’t usually wear skirts, but I absolutely love this. I paired it up with a white tank top and then I tied up my chambray shirt on top of that. You could also tuck this into the skirt too. Then I just added a pair of neutral wedge sandals.

Your turn! What look was your favorite?
