Hello! I’m Lisa Trigsted, owner and lead organizer of Get Neat with Lisa, a professional organizing service here in Dallas, TX. I’m so honored to be a guest blogger here today! Now it’s time to organize your closet!
Let’s Talk Closets
With spring cleaning in the air, we’ve been doing a ton of closet makeovers. I recommend resetting your closet twice a year, once in spring and then again in the fall. By going through your closets twice a year, you’re guaranteed to keep your wardrobe up to speed. I did this with my kiddos too. It was a great opportunity to spend one on one time with them as well as teaching them how to organize.
If it’s been years since you cleaned out your closet, you’ll need to set aside more time for this process. That’s because you will need to take everything out of your closet. Yes, you read that correctly, everything! When we come to help you, we bring rolling racks to help with this project, but you can start with small sections of your closet, so you don’t get overwhelmed. Once you do this initial clean-out, the twice-a-year resets will be a breeze!
An organized closet will bring such calm to your life. I promise!
The goal here is to touch every single item in your closet. Make a quick pass-through to take everything out that you already know you don’t wear or love anymore. Set up a donation bag to immediately put these items into. I always keep a donation basket in my closet so I can edit as I go. Keep doing this over and over until you have curated and kept only the items that you love, wear, and make you feel great!
After touching every item in your closet, it’s time to put it all back in.
Closet Cleanout and Organziation Tips
1. Use Matching Hangers
Use all matching hangers to cut down on visual clutter. When all the hangers match, it calms your mind and calms your space. You can find affordable options here.
Before Matching HangersAfter Matching Hangers
2. Create Zones
Set up zones in your closet. Tops, Bottoms, Dresses, Purses, Shoes, Accessories, Sweaters. You can even subcategorize into workout, casual, and work attire. This way there is no problem finding exactly what you’re looking for and you’ll have a plan for when you’re putting things away.
3. Color Code
I love to color code my closet. This helps me in two ways. I immediately see how many of a certain color item I have. I can easily see that I have 20 black tops lol, so I know I don’t need any more black tops. It also helps calm the space when everything is color-coded. I start each color with tank tops, short-sleeved, long-sleeved, and then jackets. Same with pants and dresses.
4. Be honest with Yourself
When organizing your closet the most important questions you can ask yourself are:
When was the last time you wore each item?
Do you love how you feel in it?
Is it comfortable?
Would you buy it again today?
5. Shoes, Shoes, and More Shoes
Use stacking storage boxes or over-the-door organizers to utalize all that vertical space that often goes unused in closets. Measure the top shelf to the ceiling to help you purchase the correct amount. Now, same as above, ask yourself the above questions with each pair of shoes.
6. Coordination Bins
Use coordinating bins with lids to stack and store accessories, off-season clothing, hats, sweaters, purses, and bags. Be sure to label the bins so you know exactly what is in each bin. Style your closet to be your own personal boutique. Even the smallest of closets can exude this feeling for you.
7. ‘One In, One Out’ Rule
Practice the ‘one in, one out’ rule. Now that you’ve organized your entire closet, every time you bring in a new item, an old one must leave. This helps you to stop and think, do I really need this? What in my current closet can I let go of to make room for this purchase? Nine times out of ten, when I ask myself these questions, I put the item back on the rack and leave the store.
Bonus:
Turn all your hangers backward after you do this initial cleanout. As you wear each item, turn the hanger back around, and at the end of each season, you’ll see what you didn’t wear. Statistics show (and I know this to be true) that most of us wear only 20% of what we own.
Getting organized will help you save time, feel calm, ease anxiety, save money, and I guarantee it will make you feel lighter and happier. I’ve worked with hundreds of clients that will testify to this. Follow these tips, and you too can have an organized closet. Need help? We are only a message away. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Pinterest. for all our before and afters, as well as daily tips for an organized life.
Your turn! Is your closet in need of a fresh start? What other areas are you eager to organize?

Have we mentioned yet how excited we are to see all the gorgeous and bright colors this spring? After coming out of the winter doldrums, it’s fun to see color in the flowers, in the sky, and of course, in our clothes. For this month’s Pretty Fix we’re having some major fun with mixing and matching colors to create a classic and inspiring look. After all, who doesn’t love a little brightness in their lives? This spring, consider adding some bold colors to your look. From bright pink to sunny yellow, plenty of shades will add personality to any outfit. So get ready to experiment and have some fun with your style!
For this month’s Pretty Fix we’re not just adding a pop of color but a few pops of color. Don’t worry though, it’s not as hard as you might think to mix and match the perfect colors. That’s where the color wheel can help. We’re not going to get too technical but if you look at the color wheel below (taken from The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas) you can see the colors that are next to each other work well together as well as colors that are directly opposite from each other.
So What is the Pretty Fix?
The Pretty Fix is where we showcase an outfit that incorporates a few trends mixed with classic closet staples. It’s an easy way to offer some fresh outfit inspiration to items you may already have or to items you may want to add to the curation of your closet. We pride ourselves on less is more and focus on learning how to pair items up in many different ways. If you find you have some gaps in your closet, the shopping links are there to help you fill in those gaps. Now let’s check out this month’s Pretty Fix look!
Bright Top + Light Wash Jeans + White Shoes + Bright Handbag
1. Bright Top
This season is all about color, and honestly, the biggest problem will be picking just one. That’s why we also added a bright handbag but we’ll get to that later. Don’t be afraid of color this season because it’s everywhere. We styled this outfit with a beautiful pink top but it could easily be subbed out for your favorite color. The puff sleeve trend is still sticking around, as well as the peasant top silhouette and ruffles. Remember, though, it’s okay to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things, but if it’s not a heck yes, then it’s a no. It’s important to stay true to what you like so if you don’t like the way a puff sleeve looks on you, you can still accomplish the same fantastic look with your favorite bright tee.
2. Light Wash Jeans
Light wash jeans have been really on-trend lately and they work perfectly to offset the bright and bold top in this outfit. Although we styled this look with some skinny jeans, it would also easily work with crops, bootcut, or even some wide legs denim. The key is proportions. Slimmer on the bottom allows for a little bit more volume on top. If you opt for the volume to be on the bottom, choose a top that’s a little more fitted. This will create a more polished look. Not a fan of light wash jeans? Easily sub in some medium wash ones.
3. White Shoes
White shoes can honestly mean anything from white sandals to flats or even a pair of white sneakers. It just depends on how casual you want to go or how dressed up. A fun pair of white heels would work, or for even more added interest, you can sub in snake print for some pattern. For this look, we choose white braided sandals because not only are they spring/summer appropriate but braided sandals are super on-trend this season.
4. Bright Handbag
It might be easy to get overwhelmed by the mixing and matching of two bright colors in this look, but it doesn’t have to be. Finding two colors that work together isn’t as hard as you think (see the color wheel above). Plus having a bright handbag in your arsenal is always a good idea. As always, we’re big fans of getting multiple uses out of the items we choose to take up space in our closets so when picking a bright handbag, pick a color you love. If you love the color, you’ll happily find many ways to mix and match it. The teal bag chosen for this look would also go great with a bright yellow top, royal blue, coral, and bright pink just to name a few.
5. Layered Necklace
Layered necklaces have been on trend for a few seasons now but this season it’s all about the two-layer necklace. Mix and match between bold and chunky or delicate and minimal. You can’t go wrong with combining your two favorite necklaces. For a more polished look try pairing necklaces in varying lengths. Check out some other fun spring accessory trends you can try HERE.
6. Earrings
When your scarves get packed away, it’s time for your earrings to come out and play! Spring and summer are all about fun earrings. That’s because they add tons of interest without adding heat and since you don’t have a scarf getting in the way, it’s open season. For this look, we picked some great silver earrings that dangle down but any earrings will work. From hoops to chain links, teardrops, or even studs, you can’t go wrong with adding a great pair of earrings to this look.
Your turn! Do bright colors excite you or terrify you? What color are you most excited to wear this season?
Spring has FINALLY sprung and if you’re anything like me, you’re itching to buy some new clothes, switch out your home decor, plan a vacation, and get ready for some fun in the sun! The last thing we like to think about at this time of year is usually makeup. It tends to feel too heavy and comes right off when we sweat. Plus we don’t always have time to do it as kids are home from school in the summer and it’s just usually a super busy time. The problem is that many of us still feel naked going out with a bare face. So what is a girl to do? I’m here to help you by sharing my spring/summer makeup staples (including SPF, of course!) This routine will work for you as the weather warms up. It’ll give you that gorgeous summer glow that lasts all day long no matter what the day holds. You can also glam up any of these looks when you want to take it to the next level.
Summer staple #1: SPF with coverage
A good summer makeup routine ALWAYS starts with SPF. We have to protect our canvas, and the best way to do that is with some sun protection. Even better is to do it with a product that provides a little bit of a glow. Below are a few of my favorite “two for one” SPF products that are also layerable with other makeup products.
Sheerest coverage
Tula Protect & Glow SPF 30 & Tula Blurring Primer (These two products combined give a little bit of a glow and blur out imperfections. Shades for all skin tones. Because it’s a primer, you can add foundation on top!)
Tula Protect & Glow SPF 30Tula Blurring Primer
A little more coverage
Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 (This won’t cover blemishes or any major imperfections, but is tinted enough to even out the skin tone. Also layers beautifully with foundation/concealer. And hydrates with hyaluronic acid!)
Full coverage
It Cosmetics CC+ SPF 50 (This is a full-coverage color-correcting cream you can wear in place of foundation. You can wear concealer or anything else on top of it, just like you would with a normal makeup routine).
Topper
It’s super important to reapply SPF throughout the day if you’re going to be outdoors. If you’re already wearing makeup this can be a challenge. That’s where these setting sprays with SPF come in! Just spray on top of your makeup and you’re good to go!
It goes without saying that bronzer is a makeup routine favorite in the summertime. Everyone wants a gorgeous glow! My favorite type of bronzer for the summer is a cream. It blends seamlessly with the skin, so you won’t see any patchy spots when you’re in the sun. I often like to wear it alone with just a little concealer.
Tip:Cream bronzer also works beautifully as an eyeshadow, lip liner, or lip color!
Favorite cream bronzers with a variety of shades for everyone
A nude lip with a brick undertone is all the rage this spring and summer. Because of the slight red undertone, it gives the appearance of a natural tan when you get just a little bit of sun. Choose a darker or lighter shade depending on how light or deep your skin tone is. Again- cream makeup is my favorite for the summer because it looks much more natural and does well through swimming & sweating!
Favorite Brick Nude Shades
Milk Lip + Cheek in SwerveThrive Triple Threat Color Stick in DionneSeint Lip + Cheek in RosewoodSeint Lip + Cheek in Madrid
Here’s how I like to use a cream lip/cheek for my eyes, lips & blush!
Illuminator/highlighter (it can be referred to as both) is one of my favorite versatile products. It adds a gorgeous shimmer and can be used on the high points of the face, as eyeshadow, as a topper for lipsticks…the options are endless! Illuminators/highlighters come in powders, liquids, and creams. My favorite is, you guessed it, a cream. That’s because it works for mature skin and never gets stuck in any lines or creases. It also never looks cakey.
Tip: I love to mix illuminator with my cream bronzer for a gorgeous glow!

Summer Staple #5: Setting Spray
Setting spray is a MUST in the summer to keep your makeup lasting through all your adventures. I mentioned some sprays with SPF above, but if you are sensitive and react to SPF or don’t need one with SPF because you won’t be outdoors much, these sprays are for you!
If you are oily, an athlete, live in humidity, or all of the above, this is your new BFF. It seriously locks in your makeup. Not good for my dry-skinned girls!
Waterproof is the name of the game when it comes to lashes & brows in the summer! I am not a massive fan of waterproof mascara, but it is necessary if one is going swimming or participating in other fun summertime activities.
Tip: Wear waterproof mascara on your lower lashes if you have issues with smudging!

Brows also tend to wash off or wipe off really easily with sweat or water. You’ll want to use a waterproof pomade for a waterproof brow or use an eyeshadow/pencil to fill them and then lock it in with a waterproof brow gel. Here’s a tutorial with my favorite foolproof, waterproof brow product HERE.

I hope this helps you navigate creating a spring/summer makeup capsule for yourself so makeup can be the last thing on your mind while making special memories with your loved ones this season. Maybe you’ll grab a new product or two, or perhaps you already have these things and learned a new way to use them. Whatever the case, get out there and enjoy the great outdoors!

Outfit Formula #1
Denim Jacket + Solid Color Top + White Bottoms + Neutral Loafers
Shop The Look
I am totally loving this bright pink top for spring and the way to plays off my white jeans couldn’t be more perfect! The pink top is the same as above, my white jeans are closet shopped and my denim jacket is a new addition from Able. I decided to switch things up and because I can’t resist a fabulous snake print, I swapped in my snake print mules which are considered a neutral!
Outfit Formula #2
Denim Jacket + Printed Dress + Neutral Mules
Shop The Look
First, I started out with a printed dress which in my option is the number one spring must-have item. It’s so versatile and easy to be dressed up or dressed down. Plus it goes with everything from cute booties, white sneakers, or sandals. I’m wearing the same dress as above plus my favorite taupe booties and topped with my Able denim jacket.
Outfit Formula #3
Solid Color Top + Striped Button Down + White Bottoms + Neutral Loafers
Shop The Look
Hi, my name is Alison and I’m addicted to striped tops! Yes, I did add a new striped top to my closet this spring but it’s a button-down and unlike anything else I have because I can say with full confidence that I do know what’s in my closet. (thank you closet-cleanout) I also added the beautiful Kelly green sweater from above, closet shopped my white pants, and finished it off with one of the trends you’ll be seeing this spring, loafers!
Outfit Formula #4
White Top + Printed Bottoms + Neutral Sandals
Shop The Look
While my hat and classic white tee may have been in my closet for a while, I brought new life to them by pairing them up with this bright ditsy floral skirt and braided sandals. Now it’s time to bring on the sunshine!
Outfit Formula #5
Color Cardigan + White Top + Medium Wash Jeans + Neutral Loafers
Shop The Look
Finally, for the last outfit formula, everything for this look is closet shopped except for the loafers I added this year. I bought this shorter cardigan last spring and it has been one of my favorite pieces. It’s still around so it became the perfect addition to this year’s spring capsule. Something I really try to follow is that nothing new enters my closet unless it can be paired up in many different ways and this piece fits that to a T!

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.
Michelle Kline November 20, 2019
Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.
Chosen Faith November 19, 2019
GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
