Ask Alison | My Everyday Makeup Routine

Ask Alison | My Everyday Makeup Routine

I used to have a regular feature called “Ask Alison” where I answered reader submitted questions about style and beauty.  I thought it would be fun to revive it because I’ve gotten some really great questions lately that I want to share with all of you.  For my first edition of the reboot of this series, I’m answering one of the questions I get asked possibly more than any other.

Hey Alison!  Can you tell me about your daily makeup routine?  Your makeup is always just right and never looks too “overdone”.  What are your favorite products and how do you apply them? – Jenna C.

First off, thank Jenna!  It’s taken a lot of years and trial and error to arrive at my everyday makeup look.  I pretty much do the same makeup every day, no matter what I have going on.  While there are times that I do get a little more gussied up, this is the “base face” that I start with for everything.

It’s easiest to show you my steps on video so here’s a quick one I threw together of my daily makeup routine.

Products Mentioned in Video:

Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Sun Damage Lotion SPF 28

Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Radiant Firming Makeup

Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Loose Face Powder

Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Bronzer/Blush Duo

Sonia Kashuk Dense Blush/Powder Brush No. 24

Smashbox Master Class Palette

Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara

IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil

Dress Up Your Shorts | Printed Tees and Tanks

One of the easiest ways to construct a great summer outfit is by adding a printed top to your favorite pair of shorts.  Just throw a few fun accessories into the mix and you have a really cute and put together outfit like this one from the Summer Style Me Pretty Challenge.

It’s one of the easiest summer outfit formulas – just start out with your favorite pair of denim, khaki or white shorts then add one of the cute tops below.  Finish it out with a pair of trendy sandals (like these for under $25) and your favorite accessories.

I Feel Pretty | Graduated

I Feel Pretty | Graduated

I had a different post scheduled today but on Monday I posted a photo from my son’s graduation that ended up creating quite a buzz around the dress I wore.  You wanted to know where I got it and how I paired it up.

It’s a black sheath faux wrap dress from Tahari that I picked up on clearance for a steal.  It was love at first sight.  Bad fashion blogger that I am (I never really claimed to be a good one),  I didn’t even get any full-length pictures of what I wore.  So I tried my best to recreate the whole outfit from the night – black dress, coral accessories, leopard heels and a color block purse.  Unfortunately, I can’t link up my exact dress but here’s a very similar one that’s definitely not so budget-friendly.

Tahari dresses fit me amazingly well, every time. The styles are so classic and are my go-to for special occasions.  So when they go on sale, I try to add a new one to my collection.  Here are some other Tahari styles that I love.

Just for fun, here’s a little throwback to my graduation year.  I’m not sure which is more impressive, the ginormous sleeves or the even bigger hair.  Hmm, maybe I didn’t always have such good taste in dresses!

Selfie Style Diary | June

Selfie Style Diary | June

Confession time: I’ve been a major slacker.

When I sat down to do this month’s installment of the selfie style diary, I realized that I only had three outfits posted on Instagram this past month…THREE.  That’s not to say that I haven’t been getting dressed, I just haven’t been posting.

Well, that’s actually not entirely true either.  I’ve been wearing a lot of yoga pants lately.  It’s just been one of those months.  Honestly the end of the school year always blindsides me a little.  This year was especially busy with our son’s high school graduation this past weekend.  So I get a free pass this time, right?

I did manage to find a few outfits to share with you – all of them heavily influenced by pieces from the Summer Style Me Pretty Challenge.  One of the perks of putting a challenge together is that it makes it easy for me to get dressed too!

LIFE LATELY

Yes, THIS happened over the weekend.  We couldn’t be more proud of our son Devon!  While I’ve been dreading his high school graduation for the past year (and thinking I would be a crying mess the whole time), it was by far the best graduation we’ve ever been to.  The speeches were incredibly entertaining and it was just one big, fun celebration.  What a unique experience!
