Beach Vacation Essentials

Beach Vacation Essentials

Every summer, our family goes on a beach vacation.  This has been a tradition since our kids were old enough to travel.  The beach is about the only place we can take our family that has something for everyone.  Our teen son gets to bring a friend.  They walk around on the beach and talk to girls.  (Wait, actually they just walk around on the beach.  They’re too awkward to talk to girls.) Our girls play in the sand and swim and hubby and I just sit back and relax in the sun.  Perfect.

Along with that, I have another fun tradition – a mommy/daughter vacation shopping day!  I think my girls and I look forward to that almost as much as the trip itself.  We have lunch and spend a day out shopping for our beach wardrobes.

I’m getting really excited because school is almost out, which means we’ll be planning our shopping outing soon.  Time to start putting together this year’s beach shopping list.

But first, I’m going to show you something that I already bought.  No beach shopping list is complete without a new pair (or two) of flip flops.  These cuter than cute Tory Burch flip flops arrived at my doorstep yesterday.

Tory Burch Flip Flops

[Tory Burch Flamingo Flip Flops]

You won’t believe the deal I got on these.  They were originally $50, on sale for $35.  BUT, if you sign up for their newsletters, you get a coupon code for 10% off and FREE shipping on every order (no minimum).  So, mama scored these cuties for a mere $31.50.

Check out the other cute styles ON SALE, like these.

Or these wedges.

Next up on the list is a wide brimmed hat.  Beach sun is brutal and even with SPF 3000, I still manage to get a burned beak.  So I’ll be packing one of these pretties for protection.

[Ralph Lauren Sun Hat – ON SALE!]

A straw beach tote is a must-have.  This neon update is the perfect companion to pack your daily beach essentials.

I’m also in desperate need of one or two more cover-ups for our daily walks on the beach.  Loft has some really cute options!

[Loft Henley Swimsuit Cover Up]

And last but definitely not least, I’m in the market for a new pair of sunglasses.   These are my current faves – tortoise with a classic shape that works great on all face shapes.

Spring Style | Five Favorite Looks

Spring Style | Five Favorite Looks

I hope all of you mamas had the best Mother’s Day ever!  Mine was pretty near perfect.  Church, a nice lunch on the patio at one of my favorite restaurants, a bike ride and hike, followed by some shopping.  I just wish it lasted for more than one day.  🙂

Is it just me or has this spring seemed to fly by?  Maybe it’s because the weather hasn’t really been spring-like until recently.  I just can’t believe there are only a few weeks until the kids are out of school for the summer!

Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, I still had fun with my outfits this spring.  Actually this is the first season since I can remember that I’ve been really happy with my wardrobe.  Today, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of my favorite spring looks.

Wardrobe Update | Five Summer Essentials

Wardrobe Update | Five Summer Essentials

Hey pretties!  It’s the day of the week where it’s not only recommended but required to get our shop on.  Each Friday, I encourage all of you to take a little out of the weekly budget to do something pretty for yourselves.

This week’s Payday Pretty inspiration features items to update your wardrobe for summer.  Try one or all of these five trends to infuse new life into your summer stand-by’s.

1.  Neon Sandals

Dip a toe into the neon trend with a fun pair of bright sandals.  Pair them up with crisp white shorts, neutrals or other bright colors.

2.  Floral Shorts

I’m going to need you to trust me on this one because I speak from experience, OK?  Last summer, I bought my first pair of floral shorts (which my hubby lovingly referred to as the “ugly curtain shorts”).  Honestly I wasn’t sure if I’d wear them.  By the end of summer, they were my favorite pair.  Now I’m looking to expand my collection.  Won’t you join me?

3.  Striped Maxi

Every girl needs a striped maxi for summer, and you, my dear, are no exception.  They have crazy versatility and are super comfortable.  Can’t beat that combo.

4.  Oversized Tote

Summer is tote season.  Pick up one of these cuties to stylishly transport your beach and pool gear.

5.  Bright Swimwear

Stand out at the beach in one of these bright hot hues.

One of the great things about blogging is that I’m so much more willing to take risks with fashion now.  Last year at this time, you never would’ve caught me mixing patterns or wearing printed denim.  Actually, if I’m being really honest, I didn’t even own patterns or bright colors at that time.

My style has completely evolved in the seven months since starting this blog.  It’s more fun now and a true representation of who I am.  I don’t  hide behind solid colors or safe outfits anymore.  It’s been more than just an evolution of style.  It’s been about coming into who I truly am and not being afraid to express it.

It’s Your Turn:  How is your style evolving?  Do you feel like you’ve come into your own or are you still on your way?

Oh and for some of the best blogging advice EVER, check out this post by my friend Shay.

Now, let’s take a look at last week’s Pretty of the Week.

She’s Lacey of Sunny and Turquoise!

Her crisp white blazer, cobalt blue blouse and jeans make for business casual perfection.  Not to mention, we have that same pair of fabulous wedges!
