Trend Watch | Neon Mom

Trend Watch | Neon Mom

By now, you’ve probably heard that neon is a big trend for spring.  But can moms wear neon?

According to my 8 year-old daughter, the answer is no.

When I picked up this highlighter yellow shirt a few days ago, my youngest daughter Ava said “I hope you’re buying that for Aubrey (her 14 year-old sister), because there’s no such thing as a ‘neon mom’.”

Well, Ava, I beg to differ. 🙂

I Feel Pretty | Good Enough

I Feel Pretty | Good Enough

I’m going to get really real with you today.

One of the biggest struggles of my life has been this nagging belief that I’m not good enough.

It’s effected me in big ways since I was a young child.  In elementary school, I was shy and reserved, afraid to speak up, yet desperately wanting attention.  In junior high and high school, I let it hold me back from doing things I would’ve loved, like trying out for big parts in plays or singing solos.

I always wondered why anyone would pick me.

This belief followed me into adulthood, but something changed.  Instead of letting it hold me back from trying things, I started to do them anyway.  Including going after my lifelong dream of being an actress.  Still, “not good enough” tagged along to every audition, sizing up my competition and often defeating me before I even walked in.

The blogging world can really bring out this insecurity.

There are comparisons to be had everywhere.  While most days I have the “not good enough” demon in it’s rightful position, it still rears it’s ugly head.

When I found out that I had been selected by Wallis as one of the 28 bloggers to compete to be their U.S. ambassador, I was ecstatic.  That feeling didn’t last long before “not good enough” started talking.  As soon as I saw the other bloggers in the competition, I knew that this would be a real challenge for me.  I’m one of the newer blogs on the block, I don’t have as many followers.

This post is supposed to be about the reasons why I think I should be the Wallis ambassador.  Instead when I sat down to write it, “not good enough” started telling me all of the reasons why I shouldn’t, like…

  1. I’m a mom of three way past her 20’s.
  2. I have curves and am not stick thin.
  3. I’m not a high end style blogger.
  4. Most of my outfits are under $100 total.
  5. I have no formal fashion training.
Then something dawned on me.

The reasons why I should be Wallis’ U.S. ambassador are all of the reasons that “not good enough” told me I shouldn’t.

I’m a real woman and a real mom, I have a real body and I shop on a real budget, I wear what feels good to me and makes me feel pretty.

And that is exactly what makes me good enough.

Quick Hairstyles to Hide Bangs

Quick Hairstyles to Hide Bangs

About a year ago, I thought it would be a good idea to get bangs cut into my hair.  While I loved them at the time (Hello?  They hide forehead wrinkles better than Botox!) I did get bored with the way they limited how I could style my hair.

Fast forward a year.  They are STILL growing out.  At least now I can tuck them behind my ear or style them so they blend in with my longer layers.

But there are days when they misbehave, big time.  Thank goodness I still have a few tricks up my sleeve from the days when my bangs were shorter.  Here are some quick and easy hairstyles I discovered to disguise bangs.

Quick Hairstyles to Disguise Bangs

1. Braid your bangs.

This is one of my favorite ways to disguise my bangs.  Part them to the side and french braid into your longer layers.  Secure them at the end with a bobby pin.

2.  Twist and pin.

Blow dry bangs to the side.  Grab them in one section and give them a few twists away from your forehead.  Pin them to the side using two bobby pins crossed over one another to secure.

3.  Wear a headband.

Wet bangs.  Using a comb or brush, blow dry them straight back, away from your face.  Place an elastic band or head band over them.  Spray lightly.

Watch this quick video for more ways to style your bangs.  Answer the question at the end and you could win $100, $250 or more!

P.S. If you like my blog, please be sure to stop by and VOTE for me to be the face of Wallis clothing!  I’ve been selected as one of 28 US bloggers to compete to be the first US ambassador for this UK based clothing line.  I need YOUR votes to make to make this happen!  You can vote once daily HERE.  THANK YOU!

BIG NEWS!

I’ve got some big news, ya’ll.  But I really need YOUR HELP!

UK Clothing brand Wallis is preparing for it’s first US launch.  They’re holding a contest to find a US ambassador to represent their brand.  My little blog got picked to be in the competition with 28 other bloggers!

ME, a mom of three that’s almost 40.  I know the odds are against me but…

It’s a voting based competition.  Since I’m not one of the bigger blogs, I really have to rely on you guys to come through for me.

It takes three clicks and is super easy to do.  Just go to the Wallis Facebook Page, click on the pink Blogger Ambassodor Contest box under the header,  then find my entry and vote for me.

Or you can simply click HERE to go directly to my page and vote!

I will have the opportunity to create an outfit using Wallis fashion in the coming days, so stay tuned!  Until then, I would love it if you could please drop by and vote for me.  You can vote once a day.

THANK YOU!!!

Now on to this week’s outfit.

I am a firm believer in formulaic dressing.  It makes putting outfits together effortless.  When I find an outfit formula I love, I stick with it!

So, if you think today’s outfit looks vaguely reminiscent of last Wednesday’s, then you’d be right (and pretty observant)!

Both of these outfits employ the same formula.

Spring Outfit Formula

Remember the knock-off J. Crew wedges from Target that I told you about in this post?  I snapped them up on sale over the weekend.  Get yours HERE while they last!

It’s Your Turn:  What’s your favorite outfit formula?  Tell me in the comments!
