Whether your sofa is a year old or ten years old there’s nothing wrong with giving it a little sofa refresh. Refreshing your sofa doesn’t have to be complicated either. Yes, you could paint your walls or look at slipcovers or if it’s really worth it, reupholstering to change the look of your sofa but who has time for that? Easy and simple is what we’re all about and did we mention budget friendly too? Plus, this way when you’re feeling a change coming on again, you’ll know just what to do. Below are a few easy and budget-friendly ways to update your sofa. We’re pretty sure they’ll have you falling in love with your sofa all over again.
1. Linen Spray
Aside from the kitchen, the sofa is also a major hub in the home. It’s the central location for family movie night and sometimes doubles as the kitchen table, your toddler’s jungle gym, or the perfect place to nap. That being said you sofa goes through a lot on a daily basis and sometimes smells from all that action can get trapped in the fabric. By using a linen spray specially designed for your sofa, you’ll be able to literally breath new life into it.
The good news is there are so many different brands on the market to try. Some simply add a light scent while other help kill germs and other allergens. Before you go too crazy with the spray, first try it in an inconspicuous area to ensure it won’t stain or leave any marks. This will also help you test out the scent to ensure that you’ll like it once you spray your whole sofa. If your sofa could use a deeper clean we recommend this spot cleaning tool. Again, make sure to test in an inconspicuous area first to be safe.
More often than not just updating the throw pillows on your couch is enough to give it new life. Add pops of color and print to totally transform the look. When updating your pillows you have many options. You can keep your old ones and simply buy new pillow covers. When doing this, buy pillow covers two inches smaller than the pillow to achieve a full, plump pillow that will stand on it’s own. By doing this simple hack, you’ll be able to keep you pillows from looking sad and slumped and more HGTV ready. Also, don’t be afraid to vary your pillows in size and texture to create a more interesting look for your sofa refresh.
The great sofa throw can provide the perfect balance of interest and function. There’s nothing better than cozying up on the sofa with a nice soft throw but you can also use it to add some great texture to your sofa when not in use. Not quite sure how to incorporate a throw on your sofa? To style a throw, try folding it neatly and placing it over the arm of the couch. Leave it long but not touching the floor. Another idea, fold the throw in thirds length wise and lay down the center of the couch again making sure it doesn’t touch the floor. Lastly try cascading it down one end of the sofa starting with it either over the back cushion or the arm rest and down over the seat. Check out more ideas for how to style your throw HERE!
It’s one of my favorite times of the year! No, I’m not talking about the holidays, although, they are magical. I’m talking about the release of the Outfit Formulas® Winter 2021 Capsule Wardrobe! As always when putting together the seasonal capsules I start with a great base of closet staples and mix in some trends and this winter has some trends I’m really loving. So what is the Pretty Fix you may ask? The Pretty Fix is where I showcase a head-to-toe outfit that features classic pieces as well as trends you can mix in to freshen up your closet. For this look I’m focusing on the leather trend, the velvet trend, the leopard always trend, and white during winter. I know it sounds like a lot but most of these items you may already have but maybe you just never paired them together. I always encourage you to try something before you decide you don’t like it. But if it’s truly a ‘heck no,’ then you can easily mix in other options. Hence the versatility of Outfit Formulas®!
Black Moto Jacket + Solid Top + Off-White Bottoms + Leopard Shoe

1. Black Moto Jacket
The first piece to this month’s Pretty Fix is a black moto jacket. This is what I consider to be a classic piece and I wouldn’t stop you if you wanted to make this one of your investment pieces. Just pick a classic color and silhouette. While this item can come in leather or suede, leather is definitely having a moment this winter. It’s everywhere from main pieces like jackets, skirts, and pants, but it’s also in cute accessories like headbands and bracelets. The best thing about leather is that it’s a neutral that packs a punch! It adds a lot of great dimension and texture to your outfit so don’t be afraid to add leather pieces to your closet this winter.
2. Solid Velvet Top
Velvet is another texture that can be seen in many different clothing pieces and accessories this season. I know velvet is one of those polarizing trends that can stir up mixed emotions but when paired together right, it just might turn into your new favorite winter staple!
3. Off-White Bottoms
Off-white, winter white, plain white, whatever name you want to call it, white bottoms are a must for all seasons, even winter. They just add a certain something to any outfit and they are a great alternative to blue jeans. They can easily be dressed up or kept casual and look fabulous with boots.
4. Leopard Shoes
Leopard print is a classic. Sometimes it has its moments more than others but you’d never be considered ‘out of style’ if you’re rocking a leopard print. I love my leopard flats and boots and I will always have them in my closet. I especially love leopard in the winter. There’s something warm, cozy, and stylish about a big, bold leopard print this time of year.
5. Black Handbag
The quilted handbags of fall are still very much on-trend for winter whether you choose a crossbody, shoulder, tote, or hobo bag. There are so many cute ones, some of which also include the chunky chain link trend. No matter what style you choose, having a classic black handbag is a great winter closet staple!
6. Layered Necklace
The layered necklace is a classic and perfect for wintertime because it can easily be worn under your favorite scarf. There are a few different ways to accomplish this look. There are tons of cute necklaces out there that are sold at one piece but have multiple strands. Or you can create your own using the necklaces you already have. The trick is to layer the dainty ones first and finish off with the chunkier ones. Also, to help keep them from getting tangled, make sure the necklace isn’t twisted when you put it on. For even more help keeping them separated, you can use a layered necklace connector.
7. Textured Hoop Earrings
I love a different take on a classic piece. Recently I’ve been obsessed with square or rectangle hoop earrings but now I’m eyeing up some fun and funky, textured hoop earrings. They are almost like a statement earring but not as big. They just add a unique twist to the hoop earring.

Plaid Shirt + Black Top + Light Wash Jeans + Black Boots

I love the casual look of formula number one. For this look, I’m wearing pretty much everything from above except for my black turtle neck which is closet shopped, and my jeans which are by 7 For All Mankind that I found at Nordstrom Rack. If you like the frayed hem, this pair is very similar. I also swapped in my rectangle hoops from Alison + Aubrey for the studs.
Day #2
Dark Gray Cardigan + Solid Top 1 + Gray Bottoms + Plaid Shoes

I know what you’re thinking with this second look, sweater on sweater crime, but it’s really not. For the second formula, I paired a cardigan with a solid top that ribbed and fully buttons like a cardigan but feels more like a tee. But you know what? That’s the best part about Outfit Formulas®, you have options! You can use whatever solid top you want! For this look, I’m wearing everything from above except for the belt which I closet shopped.
Plaid is back! Although that’s really not much of a surprise this time of year. However, this is the first time in a long time that I purchased a plaid skirt and I’m loving it way more than I thought. I paired it with a simple cream top and a neutral cardigan. Then for something that was a little outside my comfort zone, I added a felt hat. This hat has turned into one of my favorite pieces and I find myself pairing it up with a lot of my outfits. I’m wearing everything from above except my cardigan which I bought in spring. This cardigan is pretty similar.

Black Moto Jacket + Solid Top 2 + Black Bottoms + Leopard Shoes

I have to say I’m pretty obsessed with formula number four. I’m wearing almost everything from above including my favorite leather jacket. This was an investment piece I bought a few years ago and it’s still going strong. I choose a classic silhouette so I would ensure many years of use out of it. My jeans are by Blank NYC which I also found at Nordstrom Rack. This pair of black jeans are pretty similar. I added a solid yellow velvet top for a pop of color and finished off with some leopard boots!
Day #5
Solid Sweater + Off White Bottoms + Taupe Ankle Boots

I’m the kind of girl that thinks white can be worn all year long. That’s why for my last formula, a paired up a cozy sweater in a rich burgundy color, perfect for winter, with some off-white jeans and taupe ankle boots. And yes, the hat is back. I love the way this outfit turned out. I’m wearing everything from above but if you don’t want to invest in off-white jeans this look will work perfectly with white ones too.

Plaid Shirt + Black Top + Light Wash Jeans + Black Boots
One of my favorite things about fall, aside from the fall scented candles, are the layers. I love adding layers to my outfits and this time of year there are so many options to choose from. Since it’s not truly cold, at least for me yet, I’ll wait until we get a little closer to winter to add in the scarves and hats so for now, I’m going to focus on toppers. Some of my favorite toppers include closet staples like the denim jacket, the utility jacket, and the vest. Even though those three items seem pretty straightforward, there are enough differences in each to justify having a few different versions if you want.
When it comes to a denim jacket and versatility I always recommend a medium wash. I promise you’ll get the most bang for your buck with that wash. As for a great utility jacket, the standard color is olive green because it goes with everything however gray and brown are also wonderful options. Now we have the vest where the options are aplenty! You’ve got every color imaginable plus there are puffer vests, lightweight fleece vests, quilted vests, and more. My suggestion is to pick what will work best for your lifestyle. You can definitely have fun with color on this one so pick one that makes you glow!
Layering Trends
Now, if you want to incorporate some trends this fall, the shirt-jacket, or shacket as it’s sometimes called, is very on-trend. This is an item I wouldn’t break the budget on just because it is considered a fall trend and you never know how long they are going to stick around. The last layer I’m styling today is the blazer. While the boyfriend-style blazer is specifically on-trend, the blazer is a classic that you can wear year after year. Okay I lied, I’m also styling a tried and true classic, the cardigan.
It’s true, there are so many fun options for fall it’s hard to decide. Recently I partnered up with Walmart to check out some of the new items they have out this season and they have some great layering pieces. Below I’ve put together three different fall looks and the only you need to decide is ‘this or that.’ Realistically all the layers are pretty interchangeable which makes them all very versatile and the perfect addition to your closet if you don’t have them in there already.

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.
