Hello Pretties! It’s Pretty Fix time and this bonus look from the Outfit Formulas® Summer 2021 Capsule Wardrobe has got me feeling those sweet summer vibes! I kept it simple with some white shorts and a solid tobacco brown tank top but added tons of extra interest by topping it with this super light kimono. While the kimono has always been one of my favorite summer go-to items, I’m seeing them everywhere this season. What’s also on-trend for summer? Raffia accessories! I’m seeing them in handbags, headbands, earrings, and even sandals.
What is the Pretty Fix you may ask? For the Pretty Fix, I utilize trends mixed with classic closet staples and put together a super easy-to-follow formula. By doing this you’re able to easily keep your outfits feeling fresh and find new inspiration for pieces you already have. Also, the formula gives you the freedom to shop where you want (I always suggest starting with your closet), spend what you want, and interpret the formula to fit your climate and lifestyle. For example, this formula contains a solid top. A brown top may not be for everyone and that’s okay. Pick the solid color that makes you shine! Now let me see your interpretations of this month’s Pretty Fix Outfit Formula! Drop your pictures on the GYPO Pretties Facebook page! Not a member yet? Join it here! Now let’s take a look at this month’s Pretty Fix Outfit Formula!
Kimono + Solid Top + White Bottoms + Neutral Shoes
1. Raffia Headband
Raffia accessories are everywhere this summer and I for one am enjoying this trend! The raffia headband is a great way to keep your hair stylishly out of your way. Wear it alone or combine it with a top knot, messy bun, or high ponytail. If headbands are not your thing there are other easy ways to incorporate raffia into your summer style such as earrings or sandals. Don’t miss the bonus at the bottom for more raffia options.
2. Solid Top
While the solid top options are endless, you want to pick a color that coordinates with your chosen kimono. For my look, I opted for a rich tobacco color brown tank. This plays nicely off the white shorts and looks great with my neutral palette kimono. Also, don’t forget the rule of proportions, since the kimono is on the flowy side, choose a top that’s a little more fitted for a more polished look!
3. Kimono
The kimono has always been my summer go-to! It’s a great way to add tons of detail and interest without adding heat and that is crucial here in Texas. I have a few in my arsenal but this year I added this beautiful neutral number with its tan, black, and cream coloring complemented by pops of orange. Whatever pattern and color combination you pick, you can’t go wrong with a kimono!
4. White Bottoms
Whether white shorts or white pants, I am a huge fan of white bottoms. If you haven’t tried them yet I insist that you do! They go with everything and are a great alternative to denim. They also are an easy way to amp up your outfit. This year I added this pair from J.Crew Factory and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love them! They cinch in a little at the waist which is perfect for my pear-shaped body.
5. Neutral Shoes
Here’s where you have a little flexibility but what exactly is a neutral shoe? Neutral colors usually fall into shades of brown, black, gray, and white. This means you have lots of shoe options. Typically if your outfit moves towards cooler colors then opt for a black or gray shoe but if you’re in the warm color range, variations of brown are ideal.
6. Straw Tote
Straw is a little heartier than raffia but the concept is still the same. It adds an easy natural element to your summer ensemble, plus it’s really versatile. For everyday use, I love a small straw tote or even a crossbody but there are some really cute straw clutches that are perfect for a night out. When we’re heading to the beach or pool, a large straw tote fits the bill perfectly.
7. Hoop earrings
Yes, a total classic! Can you tell how much I love a simple hoop earring? Even though I choose a hoop earring there are still plenty of options available like silver, gold, or even rose gold. Plus you can pick ones that have a cute hammered detail or find ones that are small and dainty. However for this look, if you want something a little different, you can skip the headband and opt for some fun raffia earrings instead.
Bonus – Raffia Accessories
Earlier talked about raffia accessories and I promised to share some more of them with you. Below are some great raffia additions to any outfit. I’m partial to the earrings but I also added a pair of raffia sandals to my closet and I’ve already worn them multiple times. What accessory is your favorite?

It’s Pretty Fix time and this month I’m diving into one of this season’s polarizing trends, overalls. Love ’em or not, overalls are everywhere this spring. They are like a fun cross between jeans and a romper and whether you’ve worn them before or this is your first time exploring this trend, they are actually pretty comfortable. And just like jeans, they pretty much go with everything. Plus they come in a variety of washes, cuts, and lengths giving you plenty of options. I will, however, be the first to admit that even though I have done this trend before, it did push me a bit outside my comfort zone but that’s okay. I always encourage you all to try new things. Don’t knock it till you try it because you just may surprise yourself. That being said I’m also featuring another trend on this month’s Pretty Fix and they are high tops. I know, I know, what are we, back in the 80s? But retailers are putting a fun and almost sophisticated spin on these comfy classics by introducing them in leopard print, with metallic accents, and even snake print. The high tops I’m seeing have been updated for the times and you never know, they may be finding their way into your closet this spring.
If you are already familiar with what the Pretty Fix is, then feel free to skip down to this month’s formula but if you’re new here let me tell you what the Pretty Fix is all about. It’s where I offer up an outfit formula that features a few seasonal trends that you can easily add into your closet staples to give them a fresh look. By using a formula you’re able to adjust it to fit your lifestyle, budget, climate, and personal style to create a look you love. While I know this month’s look will be a heck yes for some and a heck no for others, it’s still easily adaptable. Simply swap out the overalls for a pair of skinny or even crop jeans and stick with the high tops or opt for a low sneaker instead. I promise there’s a little something for everyone.
Utility Jacket + Bright Top + Overalls + High or low top Sneaker
1. Utility Jacket
The perfect spring layer for those days that start out with winter temps and end up at summer temps around mid afternoon. While a neutral olive green is styled in this look you can easily swap it out for another neutral such as gray or camel. For longterm wear it’s best to go with a classic silhouette but that doesn’t mean you can’t opt for one with a hood or even a draw string you can cinch in to create a more defined waistline. You really can’t go wrong with adding this casual closet staple to your arsenal, plus it’s perfect for fall.
2. Overalls
The key to wearing overalls is similar to joggers, you don’t want them too tight but you also don’t want them too loose. There are some great relaxed or boyfriend cut overalls but again the focus is on fit. Opting for ones that also have a little stretch in them is never a bad idea. Plus you can mix it up by opting for a different wash or even overall shorts. I always suggest that even if they don’t make it past the dressing room or are now awaiting a UPS pickup to be returned, at least you gave them a try. In that case simply swap out for a pair of jeans, crops, or shorts for a complete look.
3. High or low Top Sneakers
Yes, I know, here is the second spring trend I’m throwing your way but again, it’s fun, casual, and always age-appropriate as long as they make you feel good! (This same statement goes for the overalls too) From simple solids to fun accents, high tops are everywhere this spring. I’m seeing them paired up with skinny jeans, rolled crops, and even shorts. Have fun with this trend and find ones that fit your personality and style. I’m pretty sure these leopard print high-tops will be finding their way to my closet very shortly.
4. Neutral Crossbody
Now we’re back to the classics. During the spring and summer months I find that I like to stay more casual and have my hands free as well which is why I love the crossbody style hand bag. When I saw this handbag I knew it was the perfect one to finish off this outfit formula. It’s not too big but not too small that I can’t fit the essentials in it. Plus it will pair with everything. Easily pair this up with some shorts and a bright tee in the summer and finish off with some bangle bracelets and metallic sandals. I love pieces I can enjoy for multiple seasons, don’t you?
5. Bright Top
Spring to me is all about color! Like the beautiful flowers of spring, I love it when the pastels and vibrant colors start popping up at various retailers. For this look, you can easily opt for a bright tank, short sleeve, or even a long sleeve if your climate is still a bit chilly. For those of you who recently welcomed a dumping of snow, I may even recommend a bright sweater for under your overalls. Again the key to keeping this look from feeling sloppy is fit. Look for a top that’s a little more fitted and long enough that you can successfully keep it tucked into your overalls unless you want to go for the cropped look which is also very on-trend this spring. As I said above, it’s all age-appropriate as long as you love what you’re wearing and the way you feel when you’re wearing it.
6. Hoop Earring
Classic, timeless and it’s okay to have multiple styles, sizes, and metals when it comes to your hoop earrings. This look already has a lot of great visual interest I decided to keep the jewelry simple. You can even opt for a pair of stud earrings to simplify it even more. Also, don’t be afraid to mix metals. just because the buttons and snaps on your overalls are one color does not mean you need to match it to your jewelry. Have fun and mix it up!
Your turn! Will you give overalls a try this spring?
Tie-dye has been creeping around the last few seasons but now it’s in full bloom as we get closer to transitioning from winter to spring. If this trend has got you thinking ‘heck no’ don’t be so hasty in your decision. I will admit you’re not alone if just the phrase alone has you thinking of a kaleidoscope of bright and bold colors or homemade kits with rubber bands and squeeze bottles of colored dye, but tie-dye has upped its game. Yes, tie-dye can still be bold but it can also be monochromatic with muted tones and soft colors. It can be fun, versatile – sophisticated even and can look good on everyone. There are so many options out there that I think the hardest part may be picking just one.
For this month’s Pretty Fix I decided to tackle this trend and put what I’m calling a sophisticated spin on tie-dye. I’m pairing it with some classic closet staples and then adding in another pop of color for some extra fun. I styled this look to be crisp and slightly minimalist just to show that tie-dye can be simple. Don’t be afraid to try this fun trend whether this is your first time around or you’ve done tie-dye before, it really is something everyone can rock.
For those of you who are new, you’re probably wondering what the Pretty Fix is all about. First, welcome! We’re happy to have you here. Second, the Pretty Fix is where I pick out a fun trend or two that you can incorporate with some classic closet staples. It’s a fun way to keep your closet looking fresh without feeling like you have to buy a ton of new items. I’ll then give you an outfit formula that you can easily adapt to your climate and lifestyle. I also provide links to similar items just in case you have any additional gaps in your closet you want to fill. Now that you know what the Pretty Fix is, let’s check out this month’s tie-dye look!
Tie-dye is definitely having its moment and why not? It’s fun, it goes with almost everything and it can be colorful or more muted. There’s a little something for everyone and it’s perfect for going into spring. Think of tie-dye as just another print that you can mix and match into your outfits. For this look, I kept it simple and styled a navy and white tie-dye sweatshirt but with the neutral base, you could really pick any tie-dye top you like.
2. White Bottoms
While this look would style perfectly with a pair of medium wash jeans or even leggings, the white jeans just spoke to me plus they’re an awesome closet staple. I love the way they create a crisp look and they are perfect to finish off winter and head into spring. If it’s already warming up where you live, white shorts would go perfectly with this look too. White bottoms are timeless and once you find a pair you love, you’ll realize just how versatile they are year-round.
3. White Sneakers
Just because I’m giving this look a sophisticated spin does not mean I don’t want to be comfortable too and what’s more comfortable and cute than a pair of white sneakers? I’ve been wearing my white sneakers more and more and I love how versatile they are. If white sneakers just aren’t your thing you could also pair this up with a pair of taupe ankle boots or flats.
4. Colorful Handbag
Colorful handbags are super on-trend heading into spring and add the perfect pop of color. A bag of skittles provided the perfect inspiration and this orange handbag did not disappoint. The hardest part was picking just one color as I could see this look easily styled with one in Kelly green or perhaps a bright pink. Whatever color you choose to coordinate with your tie-dye, just have fun and opt for something that makes you smile.
5. Dangle Earrings
I usually keep earrings pretty simple and while hoops are classic, I wanted to pick something that had a little more to it since I wasn’t going to add a necklace. A fun dangle earring provides some extra visual interest without clashing with the tie-dye. There are so many great options out there or you may even have the perfect pair already in your jewelry box.
Bonus
If you’re still not sure about jumping headfirst into the tie-dye trend there are many other ways to more subtly incorporate it into your daily style. Below are some fun, but subtle tie-dye options!
Your turn! What item is your favorite? Will you be giving tie-dye a try?
You all know how much I love cardigans. They are an awesome layering piece and an easy way to add a pop of color or even add texture to a neutral outfit. For this month’s Pretty Fix I’m going with the pop of color and styling a color block cardigan. I’m seeing tons of these colorful cardigans everywhere and the color palettes they are combining are perfect for this time of year.
The cardigan I’m styling for this month’s Pretty Fix is from Target and I instantly fell in love with the color combination. The orange and cranberry color remind me of fall leaves and I love how the heathered taupe breaks it up. It’s super soft and while it definitely takes the chill off, it’s not too heavy making it perfect for my TX climate.
And in case you’re wondering what the Pretty Fix is all about, it’s where I feature a few fun trends that you can easily add to your closet to amp up your closet staples. I provide the formula and you supply the clothes. By providing the outfit formula that gives you the freedom and flexibility to make it your own and shop where you want and spend what you want. Some of these items may already be in your closet and if not, I’ve provides some example links if you need help filling in any gaps. Below is this month’s Pretty Fix outfit formula and links to the items featured plus the Alison + Aubrey accessories I’m wearing above.
Color Block Cardigan + White Tee + Gray Jeans + Taupe Shoes
1. Color Block Cardigan
Cardigans are a closet staple and another item I recommended having in an array of colors and even lengths. They go great with jeans, leggings, dress pants, and even dresses making them super versatile. This season though they’re taking the basic solid cardigan up a notch with some fun color blocking. But what is color blocking? Color blocking by definition is the pairing together of two or more colors that are opposite on the color wheel to create an interesting and complementary color combination and that’s exactly what these cardigans are. This particular cardigan just screamed warm and cozy with its color block combination.
2. White Tee
I can’t say enough what a closet staple a good white tee is. It’s something that can be worn year-round which is why I support having multiple variations of a white tee, crew neck and v-necks, short sleeve, and long. If you’re still looking for a great white tee that’s not see-through, check out the roundup of the top-rated white tees by the Pretties HERE.
3. Medium Wash Jeans
Another closet staple that can be worn season after season is a great pair of medium wash jean. For this particular look I styled some high-waisted slim ankle jeans but you can easily swap in some skinny jeans, bootcut jeans, or even some dark wash jeans if you want to dress it up a little more.
4. Taupe Shoes
If you’ve followed me for any amount of time you know how much I love my taupe ankle boots. I can’t tell you how long I’ve had them in my closet. They are one of my favorite fall/winter closet staples because they go great with everything!
5. Neutral Backpack
I know what you’re probably thinking, ‘really? A backpack?’ But this isn’t your child or teen’s backpack. I’ve been seeing them at a variety of retailers and they’re really cute and very classy. And if you just can’t see yourself adding a neutral backpack to your closet, you can easily substitute a neutral crossbody if you want to stick with a hands free option.
6. Layered Necklace
This time of year is all about layers and in this case, I’m adding even more with a layered necklace. Layered necklaces are a super easy way to add a ton of visual interest. You can easily pair together two or three necklaces you already have at varying lengths like I did above or choose one that’s already layered for you. Also don’t be afraid to mix metals when pairing and layering your necklaces.
7. Statement Stud Earrings
I enjoy wearing a simple stud earring especially when I’m wearing a scarf to keep from getting tangled, but since it’s still not totally scarf weather here I still wanted a simple stud but turned up a notch. The statement stud is the perfect solution. It’s still simple by nature and a great alternative to a hoop earring but it’s just a bit bigger. I picked a square cut cubic zirconia stud because I wanted to add a little sparkle to this look. If you find that bigger stud earrings tend to droop, try using a clear disk back like these or any of these to help keep your earrings upright.
Your turn! Are you a fan of the color block cardigan? What’s your favorite item from this month’s Pretty Fix?
The Pretty Fix took a few months off but now it’s back and what better way to welcome it back than with a cozy and versatile fall outfit formula! It’s no surprise that fall trends aren’t as groundbreaking as they may have been in years past. The world has changed and with its current state, the trends are either a continuation of last season or a return of something classic and simple, and honestly, I’m okay with that. I love that I’m able to get even more use out of some of the extra pieces I picked up last fall and I know any classic pieces will last me many seasons to come. Some of my favorite trends this season include color and prints which is why I’m drooling over the below outfit formula. It combines classic closet staples like the white tee and olive bottoms and pairs them with some fun snake print shoes and a cardigan in a beautiful, rich fall color.
Since it’s been a while since I featured the Pretty Fix and we have some new Pretties I wanted to tell you what it’s all about. The Pretty Fix is where I feature some fun trend pieces that you can easily add to your closet staples pieces or even offer style inspiration on different ways to pair up pieces you may already have. While I do love adding a few new pieces every so often, my main passion is curating pieces that will never go out of style, that I can pair up in endless ways and that I will enjoy year after year. What’s even more exciting is that the below look is just part of the Outfit Formulas® Fall 2020 Capsule Wardrobe which features even more ways to style the below pieces.
Fall Color Cardigan + White Tee + Olive Bottoms + Snake Print Shoes
1. Fall Color Cardigan
The cardigan is a classic and a quintessential item for fall plus it’s the first thing I reach for once the chill finally comes back into the air. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, it’s never a bad thing to have a few different cardigans in your arsenal because they are so versatile. It’s no surprise that fall is all about color, specifically a golden yellow or mustard color as well as rust. However, I also know not everyone is a fan of mustard but that doesn’t mean that you still can’t use this outfit formula and make it your own. Since olive bottoms are neutral you can style this look with pretty much any color cardigan such as burnt orange, plum, or burgundy.
2. White Tee
This closet staple needs no introduction. It’s perfect for pairing up with shorts in the summer and layer under sweaters in the fall. Although a white tee is pretty simple and straight forward there are still a few design options you can choose from. You can choose from a V-neck, crew or scoop neck, long sleeve or short and also a loose or a more fitted silhouette. This is another item that it’s okay to have multiples in your closet as long as they are not the exact same thing. Sometimes different situations call for a different white tee.
3. Hoop Earrings
Hoop earrings go with everything! They come in multiple designs, sizes and metals and are perfect for this look. I love adding this classic earring to my looks.
4. Neutral Handbag
Another closet staple workhorse, the neutral handbag is a must! While I styled this look with a black handbag you could easily opt for a brown or cognac bag especially if your snake print shoes have some brown undertones to them. Since this is something you’ll be able to pair up with pretty much any look, a neutral handbag makes a great investment piece, just be sure to pick something that’s not too trendy and more on the timeless side. Also, choose one that fits your lifestyle and will fit what you typically carry on a daily basis.
5. Olive Bottoms
I love olive pants! They are a great neutral and the perfect alternative when you want something other than jeans. They can easily elevate your look while still being casual and the olive color pairs perfectly with all the other beautiful colors of fall! And since pretty much every silhouette is in style this season you can’t go wrong with a skinny cut, boot cut, button fly, or even a wide leg. Just remember if you’re going to opt for a looser bottom like a boyfriend or even an olive jogger, opt for a top that’s a little more form-fitting to balance out the proportions.
6. Snake Print Shoes
Let’s talk about snake print shoes or even just snake print in general. It’s a trend that’s sticking around, it’s a neutral so it goes with anything and it’s an easy way to amp up your outfit. However, I know there are some that just can’t get on board with this print and that’s totally okay. There are a few easy substitutions you can make if you don’t want to use the snake print. Try a metallic shoe or even opt for a black or gray shoe. Another option is that you can pick a solid shoe but opt for one that has a snake scale texture. It’s a very subtle way to add snake print without actually having snake print. In addition to some great snake print shoe options, I’ve also included some great alternative options below.
Snake Print Alternatives
7. Wrap Bracelet
The wrap bracelet is one of those fun accessories I like to finish off my outfit with. I like the little bit of subtle edge they can add. If you’re not a fan of the wrap bracelet you can easily add just one or even try a cuff bracelet. Another alternative if you don’t have a wrap bracelet is to take a few of your favorite bracelets and mix them together, they don’t even have to be the same metal but they will still give that wrap bracelet look.

I am so glad I was part of the Fall 2019 Style Challenge. It gave me confidence and so many great outfitt ideas. The ladies in the group were very supportive and I will defintetly be doing another challenge in the future.

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.
Michelle Kline November 20, 2019
Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.
Chosen Faith November 19, 2019
GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
